Ocasio-Cortez also criticized Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina for referring to the conflict as a “religious war” and urging Israel to take aggressive action against Hamas. She called Graham’s rhetoric “textbook ethnic cleansing” and unacceptable in any civil society.
She stated, “It is an affront to humanity to weaponize this horrific trauma to justify the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians. It is dangerous and must stop.”

In addition, Ocasio-Cortez pointed out the role of Christian fundamentalism in the violence in the Middle East. She highlighted the alignment of Christian fundamentalism with right-wing and authoritarian powers in the region, emphasizing the need to address this issue.
