A Reuters videographer tragically lost his life, while two journalists were injured, during their coverage at the Israel-Lebanon border.
Issam Abdallah, a Reuters cameraman, was tragically killed, while Thaier Al-Sudani and Maher Nazeh, two Reuters journalists, were injured as a result of an Israeli artillery strike near the Israel-Lebanon border.
Reuters released a statement confirming that the incident was captured on camera and livestreamed on their YouTube channel.
The livestream captured the horrifying moment when the missile struck, accompanied by a loud, piercing sound. The scene was filled with smoke and debris, and screams could be heard.
Amidst the chaos, a woman’s voice can be heard yelling, “What happened?” and repeatedly shouting, ”I can’t feel my legs!” In the background, a man can be heard screaming and swearing.
Shortly after the incident, Reuters announced on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, that they had taken down the livestream.
In their statement, Reuters expressed their condolences and stated that they are actively cooperating with authorities to gather more information.
“We are deeply saddened to learn that our videographer, Issam Abdallah, has been killed,” the statement said. “We are urgently seeking more information, working with authorities in the region, and supporting Issam’s family and colleagues.”
Al Jazeera, another news outlet, also reported that two of their journalists, Carmen Joukhadar and Eli Brakhya, were injured in the same border area strike.
According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, a non-profit organization, the deaths of at least 10 journalists covering the conflict between Israel and Gaza have been documented.
