An Israeli man who works at the Israeli Embassy in Beijing was brutally attacked in front of a supermarket, as reported by Chinese police and the Israeli government.
A shocking video has emerged on social media, capturing the moment when the 50-year-old victim bravely fought off his attacker, who repeatedly stabbed him, leaving bloodstains on the sidewalk. The victim, who is related to an Israeli diplomat, is currently in stable condition after receiving medical treatment.
The Israeli government released a statement, assuring that the victim is receiving the necessary medical care and is expected to recover.
Beijing authorities have apprehended a suspect, a 53-year-old foreign man. The motive behind the attack remains unknown, and it is unclear whether it is related to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
This horrifying incident occurred amidst widespread street protests by Muslims worldwide following Friday prayers. These protests were triggered by the deadly attacks carried out by Hamas in southern Israel the previous Saturday.
Since the outbreak of the war, there has been a surge in anti-Semitic comments on Chinese social media platforms. To combat this hostility, the Israeli Embassy in Beijing has implemented comment filtering on its Chinese social media accounts.
The U.S. ambassador to China, Nicholas Burns, expressed his shock over the attack on an Israeli diplomat in Beijing through a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. He also pledged full support to the Israeli Embassy and the Israeli community in China.
In response to the violence, the U.S. Embassy and Consulates in China also posted on X, urging the public to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings.
