Ilhan Omar Promotes False Propaganda About Israeli Military Operations
Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) recently shared misleading information on her social media account, falsely portraying children as victims of Israeli military operations. However, the reality is that these children actually died in Syria a decade ago.
The false claim originated from self-proclaimed “investigative journalist” Sulaiman Ahmed, who posted a photo of dead children with the caption “CHILD GENOCIDE IN PALESTINE” and claimed that the Israeli IOF Forces were responsible for their deaths.
Omar, with her nearly three million followers, shared this false claim without verifying its accuracy.
However, the truth is that the photo is from an article in National Geographic, published in August 2013, which shows children in Damascus, Syria, who died from chemical weapon poisoning.
Ilhan Omar has reposted an image purported to be from Gaza but is actually a 2013 image of child victims of the Assad regime’s Eastern Ghouta gas attack.

Omar faced significant backlash online for promoting this propaganda. Human rights lawyer Arsen Ostrovsky criticized her for spreading fake news and accused her of harboring anti-Semitic sentiments.

NBC News deputy tech editor Ben Goggin also weighed in, stating that Sulaiman Ahmed has a history of spreading misinformation during this conflict.

Former New York Democratic lawmaker Dov Hikind called out Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) for her complaint about misinformation on social media. Hikind pointed out that Omar’s promotion of the false image contradicts Ocasio-Cortez’s call for verifying information from multiple sources.

In addition to Omar’s false promotion, the Israeli government also exposed a video in which Palestinians attempted to pass off a doll as a dead child during Israeli airstrikes against terrorists.
