Unfortunately, some drivers have been disregarding the sheriff’s instructions and attempting to find faster routes by trespassing. The sheriff’s office has strongly discouraged this behavior in a second update.

According to the COtrip website, the closure of the interstate is expected to last at least until Monday.
The website states, ”I-25 MP 107, north of Pueblo, is closed in both directions due to a bridge collapse and train derailment. This will be an extended closure, possibly lasting through 10/16/2023. Seek alternate routes. Expect long delays.”
The sheriff’s office has warned drivers to anticipate delays and has stated that the detours will be in place for an indefinite period of time.
Investigations into the incident are underway, with personnel from Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad and the National Transportation Safety Board en route to Pueblo. Their joint investigation will determine the cause of the incident.
