With everything that’s happening these days, I don’t know about you, but I could really use some good news. And boy, do I have a story for you.
Picture this: Eric Coovert, an assistant football coach at Kingwood Park High School in Kingwood, Texas, delivers a pregame pep talk that goes far beyond the football field.
“I just want to talk about one thing,” Coovert tells his players. “And that’s our slogan from the beginning of this year: stay relentless.”
“And you guys know that means more than just on the football field. It means in the classroom, in our lives, in our relationships, and against our personal demons.”
“And let me tell you something right now — for the last couple of months, you guys have inspired me. You’ve helped me battle my own personal demon, and you all know what that is: cancer.”
“You guys have overcome so much. You’ve conquered the heat, you’ve conquered obstacles in everyday life. And every day, you motivate me.”
“I want you to know that because you guys are my family, your inspiration has made me stay relentless in my fight.”
“And last night, I got a call from my doctor. I’ve gone 1-0 against cancer.”
The team erupts in cheers at the announcement. It’s a moment of pure joy and celebration.
