France’s Macron Says Rising Islamist Terrorism Threatens All of Europe
Europe Faces Rising Threat of Islamist Terrorism, Says French President Macron
Europe is witnessing a surge in “Islamist terrorism” and all states are at risk, according to French President Emmanuel Macron. He made these remarks during his visit to Albania, following the recent killings of a teacher in France and two Swedish football fans in Belgium.
Macron’s statement comes just a day after a 45-year-old attacker, claiming allegiance to the Islamic State, posted a video online taking responsibility for the murder of the two fans in Brussels.
In Paris, a French anti-terrorism prosecutor revealed that a 20-year-old man, who fatally stabbed a school teacher and injured three others in Arras on October 13, had also pledged loyalty to the Islamic State.
“We witnessed it again yesterday in Brussels. All European states are vulnerable, and there is indeed a resurgence of Islamist terrorism,” Macron emphasized after his discussions with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama in Tirana.
Expressing solidarity with Belgium, Macron added that he might visit Israel in the near future, considering the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Islamist group Hamas. He stressed the importance of reaching concrete agreements on non-escalation, humanitarian issues, and overall peace in the region.
“Israel’s security, the fight against all terrorist groups, as well as the peace process and the political solution, are all interconnected. This is the agenda we need to rediscover,” Macron stated.
