On Tuesday, King ‍Abdullah ⁢II of Jordan publicly rejected the idea to ⁤admit Palestinian refugees from northern Gaza into either Jordan or Egypt after a meeting with German Chancellor OIaf Scholz in‍ Berlin.

“There will be no refugees in Jordan and no refugees in Egypt,” the king declared.

He referred to this as ⁣a ‌“red line”, ‍emphasizing that ‍the humanitarian crisis must be contained‌ within Gaza and the West Bank.

Abdullah’s ⁣announcement comes in response to Israel’s calls for more than 1.1 million Gazans‍ to head south toward the Rafah ⁢border ⁢crossing with Egypt.

In response to the potential ‍arrival of hundreds⁢ of thousands of refugees,‌ Egypt has been reluctant to open its ‍borders, even ⁣for foreigners and⁤ Palestinians with ⁤dual nationality.

Egypt’s stance is contingent on the condition that ⁣humanitarian aid is allowed to enter Gaza.

As part of global diplomatic initiatives aimed⁢ at alleviating the suffering of those ‍trapped⁤ in Gaza, a bipartisan delegation of U.S. Congress members⁣ have urged Egypt to⁣ create and uphold ⁤safe‍ zones‍ in the southern region,⁣ which ⁢is home to over 2 million people.

Hamas has urged the Gaza residents to remain in ⁢place. However, it is anticipated that the Israeli Defense⁣ Forces ⁤will initiate extensive ground operations, causing civilians to flee southward towards neighboring Jordan or Egypt.

On Wednesday, Jordan⁤ is set to convene a ‍four-party summit in Amman, ⁤with ‍President ‍Biden and leaders ‌from Egypt and Palestine. ‌The ⁢primary agenda of the summit is to address the ‌“dangerous” consequences of the war in Gaza on the regional landscape.

The conversations⁣ will center on ⁢strategies to bring‌ about ‌an‌ end‌ to the ongoing hostilities in Gaza and explore avenues⁤ for “reviving” the peace⁢ process, according to an official statement.

Additionally, King Abdullah will conduct a separate summit with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Palestinian President ‍Mahmoud Abbas.

The⁢ decision by King ⁤Abdullah to reject the admission of Palestinian refugees into Jordan and Egypt is significant and has drawn attention to the⁣ complexities of the situation. The call by‌ Israel for Gazans to ⁢head south towards the Rafah border crossing with Egypt has intensified concerns about an‍ influx of refugees and the potential strain it would put on Egypt’s resources and infrastructure. Egypt’s ⁤reluctance to open its borders reflects its desire to‍ prioritize the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, recognizing⁣ the dire‌ circumstances faced by the population there.

In response to these challenges, bipartisan delegations from the United States Congress have urged Egypt to establish safe zones in the ‌southern‍ region, where the majority of Gaza’s population⁢ resides. This proposal aims to⁣ provide‌ a secure environment for civilians and alleviate their suffering.

Hamas, the governing authority in ⁢Gaza, has urged the residents ‌to remain in place, highlighting the uncertain and dangerous circumstances that ⁢may arise if extensive ground operations are initiated by the Israeli Defense Forces. The fear of civilians fleeing towards neighboring countries, including Jordan and Egypt, further emphasizes ‍the urgency of finding⁤ a resolution⁤ that ensures the safety and well-being of all individuals involved.

Against this‍ backdrop, Jordan is set to convene a four-party summit in Amman, ‌which will include President Biden and leaders from Egypt and Palestine. The primary focus of the summit is to address the dangerous⁣ consequences of the war in Gaza and explore avenues for reviving the peace ‌process.

The discussions during the summit will center on developing strategies to bring an end to the ongoing hostilities,⁣ promote stability in the region, and revive⁣ the stalled peace process. ⁢The participation of key stakeholders, including Jordan, Egypt, and the United States, underscores the importance of ‍international cooperation and collective efforts to achieve a‍ sustainable and just resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

King‌ Abdullah’s decision‌ not to accept Palestinian ⁤refugees into Jordan and Egypt highlights the pressing need ‌for a ⁢comprehensive and inclusive approach to resolve the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. It emphasizes⁤ the importance of prioritizing the well-being ⁤and safety of the affected populations and the need‍ for international support and collaboration in finding sustainable solutions.

As the summit unfolds, it is hoped that the discussions will lead to tangible actions and a renewed⁣ commitment to⁢ ending the violence, addressing ‌the underlying causes of the conflict, and laying the foundation for lasting peace and stability in the region. The situation in Gaza and the plight of Palestinian refugees require urgent attention and concerted efforts from the international⁣ community to bring about a just and lasting resolution.
