The Department of Treasury announced on Wednesday that it will target⁤ 10 Hamas leaders ⁢and financial facilitators with these sanctions.

The package specifically focuses on “members managing assets in a secret Hamas investment portfolio, a ‍Qatar-based financial facilitator with close ties to the Iranian ⁤regime, a key Hamas commander, and ‍a Gaza-based virtual currency exchange and its operator,” according to a‌ statement from⁢ the Department.

The⁣ sanctioned individuals ⁣include Musa Muhammad ⁤Salim‍ Dudin, a member of Hamas based in the West Bank, and Abdelbasit Hamza Elhassan Mohamed Khair, a Sudan-based financier, among others⁣ based in Turkey.

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen ⁣stated that the United States ⁤is taking swift and‌ decisive action to disrupt Hamas’s‍ financial assets in⁢ response to the brutal killings ⁢of‌ Israeli civilians.

“The U.S. Treasury has a ⁢long history ⁤of effectively disrupting terror finance and ‍we will not ‍hesitate to use our tools ‌against Hamas. We will continue ‌to take all steps necessary to deny Hamas terrorists the⁤ ability to raise and use funds ‌to carry out atrocities and ‌terrorize the‍ people ‍of Israel. ‌That includes by imposing sanctions and coordinating ‍with allies and partners to track, freeze, and‌ seize any Hamas-related assets in ⁣their jurisdictions,” Yellen ⁤continued.

Meanwhile, President Biden is currently visiting ‍the Middle East⁢ to meet with Israeli officials and ‌show solidarity. Originally,‌ he was also scheduled to meet with leaders of the Palestinian Authority in ‍Jordan, but these plans were disrupted due‍ to an accusation by Hamas that Israel‍ struck a hospital with an airstrike, resulting in the deaths of⁣ over 400 people, according to the Palestinian‌ Authority.

Israel ⁤has denied the accusation and provided evidence that the hospital explosion was caused by a ⁢Palestinian Islamic Jihad rocket that failed to reach its intended target in Israel.

After reviewing the evidence, President Biden expressed his conviction that Israel was not⁣ responsible for the incident.

“I was deeply saddened and outraged by the‌ explosion of the⁤ hospital in Gaza yesterday, and based on what I’ve seen,⁢ it appears as though it ⁣was done by the other team,⁣ not you,”‍ Biden⁤ said ⁣of the attack, during a bilateral meeting with⁣ Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu⁢ Wednesday.

How does the implementation of these sanctions reflect the United States’ commitment to combat terrorism and support its allies in the region?

That Israel was not responsible for this tragic incident. We stand by Israel’s right to defend itself against Hamas’s indiscriminate rocket attacks, and we will continue to support⁢ their efforts to achieve lasting peace in the region,” President Biden said in a press conference.

The Biden administration’s decision to implement new sanctions on Hamas is a significant step in⁣ disrupting the organization’s financial operations. By targeting key leaders and financial facilitators, the United States aims to cripple Hamas’s ability to fund its missile program and carry out acts of terror.

This move shows a strong commitment by the Biden administration to combat terrorism and support its allies in the region. ⁣It sends a clear message that the United States is willing to take‍ decisive action against those who seek to harm innocent civilians and destabilize the Middle ⁣East.

Additionally, President Biden’s ⁢visit to the Middle East demonstrates the importance of maintaining close ‍relationships with Israeli⁤ officials and reaffirming the ⁣United States’⁤ support for its ally. By standing in solidarity with Israel, the Biden administration is sending a message of unity and⁤ strength to both its ‌allies ⁣and adversaries in the region.

While the planned meeting with Palestinian ‌Authority leaders was disrupted due to the⁢ accusation made by Hamas, it is crucial that all parties involved continue to pursue‍ dialogue and ⁤diplomatic solutions to the ongoing conflict. Only through ⁣meaningful negotiations can a lasting peace be achieved and the cycle of violence ‍broken.

The implementation of new sanctions on Hamas is just one aspect of the Biden administration’s efforts to promote peace and stability in‍ the Middle East. It is‌ a commitment to using all available tools to disrupt and dismantle terrorist organizations that pose a threat to regional security.

As the United States continues to navigate⁣ complex geopolitical challenges, ⁣it remains steadfast in its support for its allies and its determination‍ to combat terrorism. The implementation ⁢of these sanctions‍ on Hamas is a testament to that commitment, and it⁣ is⁤ a step towards a safer and more peaceful world.
