Arson Attacks Target Two Churches in Small Town
Law enforcement in Brocton, New York, is currently investigating a series of alleged arson attacks that occurred on Monday. The Tri-Church Parish and Fellowship Church were both targeted in these incidents.
According to the Observer Today, Brocton Fire Chief Bill Hussey and a Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputy reviewed security footage from the nearby Brocton Central School. The footage revealed a person intentionally setting fire in front of Fellowship Church and attempting to spread the fire by throwing debris onto it.
Fire Chief Hussey described the flames shooting several feet in the air, but fortunately, they extinguished on their own as no one reported the incident until the morning.
The Tri-Church Parish fire was set in the entryway, causing damage to the canopy’s sidewalk under the back entrance. Hussey expressed relief that the fire did not spread, as it could have resulted in two simultaneous church fires.
Authorities are now working to identify the arsonist responsible for the Tri-Parish Church fire using security footage from the nearby Country Fair store.
This is not the first time the town has experienced an anti-Christian fire incident. In 2013, the Tri-Church Parish burned down, but it has since been rebuilt.
Daniel Frey was charged with third-degree arson in connection to the previous Tri-Parish Church fire and was ultimately convicted, receiving a sentence of up to eight years in state prison.
The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office has reached out to the public for assistance in identifying a possible person of interest seen in the Brocton area on the morning of October 16th, 2023.
