A new poll reveals that former President Donald Trump is set to dominate the swing states in the upcoming 2024 election.
A recent survey conducted by Bloomberg and Morning Consult shows that President Joe Biden is trailing behind Trump in five out of the seven crucial swing states, just 13 months before the general election in 2024. When all seven states are combined, Trump leads Biden with a 47% to 43% margin.
Trump holds a 5% lead in Georgia, 4% in Arizona, 2% in Wisconsin, 1% in Pennsylvania, and 4% in North Carolina. In Michigan, Trump and Biden are tied, while Biden leads Trump by 3% in Nevada. The poll has a margin of error of 1%.
Adding to the concerns for the Biden campaign, swing state voters express more trust in Trump than Biden when it comes to addressing the important issues facing the country today. Over 50% of swing-state voters believe that the national economy was better under Trump. In terms of the economy, voters in these states trust Trump more by a margin of 14% (49% to 35%). Independent voters in these states also have less trust in Biden on the economy, with 47% favoring Trump compared to 25% favoring Biden.
“Right now, Biden is not getting any credit for work he’s done on the economy,” said Caroline Bye, a pollster and vice president at Morning Consult. “Almost twice as many voters in the swing states are saying that Bidenomics is bad for the economy, as opposed to good for the economy, which is a really startling fact if you’re the Biden campaign.”
The poll also reveals that swing-state voters trust Trump more than Biden on issues such as immigration, crime, US-China relations, guns, the Russia-Ukraine war, infrastructure, housing, and labor/unions. The union metric could be crucial, as the poll shows that voters trust Trump more on that issue by 2%. Both Trump and Biden recently visited Michigan to win the support of the striking United Auto Workers. However, the UAW, a major union based in Michigan, has not yet issued an endorsement in the race.
On the other hand, swing-state voters express more trust in Biden on issues such as schooling, abortion, social security, democracy, and health care.
These seven swing states hold a total of 93 electoral college votes, which could ultimately determine the outcome of the 2024 presidential election.
