The school’s athletic director, Warde Manuel, announced the suspension on Friday.
“Michigan Athletics suspended Connor Stalions today, with pay, pending the conclusion of the NCAA investigation,” the statement from Manuel read.
According to ESPN, Stalions graduated from the United States Naval Academy and joined Michigan football in May 2022. He is currently working as an off-field analyst, earning $55,000 a year.
An ESPN report described Stalions as a “low-level staffer with a military background” and a key figure in the scandal that has rocked the Wolverines football program. The NCAA is even seeking access to his computer as part of the investigation.
Michigan is accused of stealing signals from opponents, which is not technically illegal in college football. However, the team is alleged to have violated the rules by scouting opponents in-person. In-person scouting and using electronic equipment to convey stolen signals are both illegal, but Michigan is only accused of the former.
