Michigan State apologizes for showing Hitler image at football game.
Michigan State University Apologizes for Displaying Hitler Image at Football Game
Michigan State University (MSU) has issued an apology after a major blunder resulted in an image of Adolf Hitler being shown on the scoreboard before an October 21 football game.
During the pre-game trivia at Spartan Stadium, home of the Michigan State University Spartans, a picture of Adolf Hitler, arguably the most hated man in history, was displayed for a question asking where the Austrian-turned-German was born.
The incident quickly went viral on social media, with images and videos of the scoreboard mishap being widely shared. Prior to the Hitler image, the trivia question asked about the color of Spock’s blood in Star Trek, with the answer being “green.”

MSU Associate Athletic Director Matt Larson promptly issued a statement apologizing for the incident, placing the blame on a third-party source.
“MSU is aware that inappropriate content by a third-party source was displayed on the videoboard prior to the start of tonight’s football game. We are deeply sorry for the content that was displayed, as this is not representative of our institutional values,” he said.
“MSU will not be using the third-party source going forward and will implement stronger screening and approval procedures for all videoboard content in the future,” Mr. Larson added.
The game ended on a disappointing note for the Michigan State University Spartans, as they were defeated by the University of Michigan Wolverines with a score of 49-0.
Quiz Creator Unaware University Used His Video
Sharp-eyed viewers of the YouTube Channel “The Quiz Channel” quickly noticed that the content used by MSU was from the General Knowledge Trivia Quiz (Part 18) released on October 14. The creator and producer of The Quiz Channel, Floris van Pallandt, revealed in the video’s comment section that MSU had not sought his permission to use his video and that he had no involvement in the mishap.
“To be clear, I was unaware Michigan State University is using my content for stadium entertainment and this was unsolicited and unauthorized use. A random history trivia question in an inappropriate setting,” he said.
“It was unsolicited and unpaid for,” Mr. van Pallandt added in another comment.
According to YouTube’s terms of service, video creators maintain ownership rights over their content but grant certain rights to YouTube and other users. However, the terms of service do not permit the use of content outside of the YouTube platform.
Displaying images of Hitler and other Nazi-related content is illegal in several countries, including Australia, China, Austria, Germany, and most of Europe. While it is legal in the United States, it is widely considered highly inappropriate, especially at public events due to the atrocities committed by the Nazis (National Socialist German Workers’ Party) during World War II.
The Epoch Times reached out to Michigan State University and the creator of The Quiz Channel for comment but did not receive a response before publication.
