“We’ve been wanting to win this for a long time,” DeChambeau expressed in an interview. “Last year left us with a sour taste, and I couldn’t be happier with my team. They worked tirelessly to achieve this victory.”
The top four seeds, 4Aces GC, Crushers GC, Torque GC, and RangeGoats GC, emerged victorious in the match-play semifinals on Saturday, securing their spots in the final round. In the final round, stroke play format, every player’s score counted towards their team’s total.
Torque GC, led by captain Joaquin Niemann of Chile, claimed the third spot with a score of 6-under 282. Niemann’s exceptional performance of 6-under 66 was the highlight, while his teammates averaged out to even par.
Defending champions, 4Aces GC, had a disappointing performance, finishing fourth with an even-par team score of 288. Captain Dustin Johnson struggled with five bogeys and only two birdies, resulting in a 3-over 75. Peter Uihlein led the 4Aces with a solid 3-under 69.
Lahiri had an impressive start to his round with a birdie-birdie-eagle stretch at holes 4–6, setting the tone for his outstanding performance.
“I wasn’t tense at all,” Lahiri shared. “I was actually really pumped up. I had a couple of Sundays this season where I let myself down, but I wasn’t going to let that happen today.”
Watson concluded his first season with LIV on a high note, delivering a bogey-free round with three birdies and an eagle.
“The RangeGoats came out of nowhere,” Watson commented on his team’s performance. “We played great. We still have room for improvement, but finishing second for the year is a fantastic achievement.”
The Team Championship marked the end of the second season of the Saudi-funded LIV Golf circuit. The future of LIV in 2024 remains uncertain due to the Saudi Public Investment Fund’s framework agreement with the PGA Tour and DP World Tour.
