Democrat Senator Menendez denies Foreign Agent charge.
Senator Bob Menendez Pleads Not Guilty to New Indictment
Senator Bob Menendez, a Democrat from New Jersey, defiantly pleaded not guilty on Monday to a fresh indictment accusing him of conspiring to act as an unregistered foreign agent for the Egyptian government.
The indictment, filed by federal prosecutors on October 12, alleges that Menendez, who was previously the chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, engaged in actions between 2018 and 2022 on behalf of Egyptian military and intelligence officials.
Appearing before U.S. District Judge Sidney Stein in Manhattan, Menendez entered his plea, maintaining his innocence.
In a statement released on October 12, Menendez declared, ”Piling new charge upon new charge does not make the allegations true.”
Previously, the senator and his wife, Nadine Menendez, were charged with accepting cash and gold bars worth hundreds of thousands of dollars from three businessmen in New Jersey. In exchange, Menendez allegedly used his influence to benefit Egypt’s government and obstruct investigations into the businessmen by law enforcement.
All defendants, including Nadine Menendez and one of the businessmen named Wael Hana, pleaded not guilty to the charges on September 27. However, on October 18, both Nadine Menendez and Hana pleaded not guilty to the foreign agent charge.
According to the Foreign Agents Registration Act, individuals must register with the department if they act as “an agent of a foreign principle.”
Prosecutors claim that Hana arranged meetings between Menendez and Egyptian officials, who pressured the senator to approve military aid. In return, Hana allegedly put Nadine Menendez on the payroll of a company he controlled.
The new indictment states that both Hana and Nadine Menendez conveyed requests and directives from Egyptian officials to the senator.
Despite calls from fellow Democrats to resign, Bob Menendez has remained steadfast in his refusal.

Acy, bribery, and other corruption charges. The high-profile trial garnered widespread attention as Senator Menendez maintained his innocence and vowed to fight the charges against him.
The new indictment against Senator Menendez comes after a previous trial in 2017 resulted in a hung jury. The Department of Justice decided to pursue a retrial, alleging that Menendez took lavish gifts and donations from a wealthy Florida eye doctor, Salomon Melgen, in exchange for political favors.
During his arraignment, Senator Menendez confidently entered his plea of not guilty, reiterating his belief in his own innocence. He firmly stated that he had always acted within the bounds of the law and that the legal system would exonerate him once again.

They expressed their determination to vigorously challenge the allegations and fight for their client’s vindication. They claimed that the government’s case relied heavily on circumstantial evidence, disregarding the absence of direct proof.
Despite the charges, Senator Menendez remains committed to his duties in the Senate and vows to continue fighting for the interests of the people of New Jersey. His tenure as a senator has been marked by a strong emphasis on social justice, immigration reform, and affordable healthcare.
