Joy Behar of The View draws comparison between Rashida Tlaib and Trump in antisemitism talk.
The View’s Joy Behar Slams Rep. Rashida Tlaib for False Statements on Gaza Hospital Explosion
In a fiery discussion on The View, co-host Joy Behar didn’t hold back in criticizing Rep. Rashida Tlaib for spreading misinformation about an explosion at a Gaza hospital. Behar even drew a comparison to former President Donald Trump.
Antisemitism and Tlaib’s Controversial Remarks
The talk show hosts were addressing the concerning rise of antisemitism in the United States when co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin pointed out that it’s a bipartisan issue. Griffin specifically called out Tlaib and Rep. Ilhan Omar for their involvement in what she described as “dangerous antisemitism.” Behar chimed in, highlighting Tlaib’s recent comments on the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital explosion in Gaza on October 17.
“Rashida will still not admit that that attack on the hospital came from Hamas,” Behar passionately stated. “They have video showing it, but she goes out there and lies — like Trump.”
Tlaib has stood by her claims that the Israeli air force was responsible for the bombing, despite other members of Congress, including Omar, retracting their previous condemnations of Israel. Tlaib released a statement asserting that media outlets have cast doubt on the evidence presented by Israel and the Gaza Ministry of Health, suggesting the need for an independent investigation.
“I cannot uncritically accept Israel’s denials of responsibility as fact, especially in light of confirmation from the World Health Organization that Israel has bombed numerous medical facilities in Gaza and reports from the Palestinian Red Crescent Society of ongoing threats from the Israeli military to evacuate hospitals,” Tlaib argued.
Tlaib’s refusal to back down from her statements has faced criticism from members of Congress on both sides of the aisle. Sen. John Fetterman described it as “truly disturbing” that some lawmakers immediately blamed Israel for the hospital explosion.
Resolution to Censure Tlaib
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene announced her intention to introduce a resolution to censure Tlaib for her ”antisemitic activity” and alleged sympathy towards a terrorist organization. The resolution also references Tlaib’s involvement in the protest at the U.S. Capitol last week, where she addressed the crowd during a rally organized by the protest’s leaders.
Greene expressed confidence that “every single Republican” would vote in favor of censuring Tlaib, and she anticipated support from some Democrats as well.

How did Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s false statement about the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza impact the public discourse on the Israel-Palestine conflict?
Ber 16, 2021.
During a Congressional hearing, Rep. Rashida Tlaib claimed that Israel had bombed the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza. However, her statement was later debunked by multiple sources, including Palestinian authorities, who confirmed that the explosion was caused by a misfired rocket from Gaza itself. Despite this clarification, Tlaib refused to correct her false statement, leading to widespread outrage and condemnation.
Joy Behar, known for her direct and outspoken nature, did not hesitate to call out Tlaib for her actions. Behar pointed out that spreading misinformation, especially about a sensitive issue such as the Israel-Palestine conflict, only fuels hatred and further escalates tensions. Drawing a parallel to former President Donald Trump, Behar noted that both Tlaib and Trump share a tendency to make false statements without consequences.
Behar’s comparison is not unwarranted. It is crucial to hold public figures accountable for the accuracy of their statements, as they have the power to shape public opinion. False information can perpetuate harmful stereotypes and incite violence. In this case, Tlaib’s false claim about the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital explosion could have dangerous consequences, as it demonizes Israel and fuels anti-Israel sentiments.
Furthermore, Tlaib’s refusal to acknowledge and correct her false statement demonstrates a lack of accountability and responsibility as an elected representative. It is concerning that a member of Congress would persist in spreading misinformation even after being confronted with the truth. This behavior undermines trust in our elected officials and undermines our democratic system.
Behar’s critique of Tlaib extends beyond her specific false statement. It reflects a larger concern about the rise of antisemitism and the need for leaders to speak out against it. Antisemitism is not limited to one political ideology or party. It is a pervasive issue that requires bipartisan condemnation and commitment to combatting it.
While Tlaib’s controversial remarks are indeed concerning, it is important to approach this issue with nuance and avoid demonizing an entire community or political belief. Engaging in productive dialogue that addresses the root causes of antisemitism and promotes understanding is essential in fostering a more tolerant society.
Joy Behar’s criticism of Rep. Rashida Tlaib on The View should be seen as a call for accountability, responsible leadership, and the rejection of false and harmful information. It serves as a reminder that public figures hold a significant responsibility in shaping public discourse and should strive to uphold the highest standards of truth and accuracy.
As discussions on sensitive topics continue, it is crucial to approach them with respect, empathy, and a commitment to seeking the truth. Only through open and honest dialogue can we hope to understand and address the complex issues facing our society today.
