This Anti-Israel Group is Part of a Left-Wing Dark Money Behemoth.
The Adalah Justice Project: Unmasking the Dark Money Connection
Prepare to uncover the shocking truth behind the Adalah Justice Project, a key player in the web of progressive activist groups. This subsidiary, backed by a prominent left-wing dark-money organization, has been making waves as one of the loudest defenders of the Islamic terrorist group Hamas.
Following Hamas’s devastating attack that claimed over 1,500 lives, the Adalah Justice Project wasted no time in circulating a solidarity pledge, boldly declaring their support for the Palestinian people’s right to defend themselves. This so-called grassroots organization, which claims to build coalitions for collective liberation, has even taken their activism to the streets, staging rallies in New York and Washington, D.C., and occupying the offices of influential politicians to demand an Israeli ceasefire.
But here’s the shocking truth: Adalah is not the grassroots movement it claims to be. It is, in fact, a subsidiary of the Tides Center, a dark-money giant managing over $1 billion in assets. This left-wing behemoth counts progressive billionaires George Soros and Pierre Omidyar among its donors. Through Tides, Adalah receives funding from major left-wing philanthropies like the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, which has funneled a staggering $710,000 to Adalah since 2018.
Adalah’s affiliation with Tides allows it to quickly launch seemingly grassroots organizations without the need to register as a nonprofit. Notable examples include the national Black Lives Matter group, which Tides sponsored in 2020. The extent of Tides’ involvement in Adalah’s actions remains unclear, as representatives for Soros and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund have declined to comment.
With the backing of Tides, Adalah has become one of the most aggressive groups working to delegitimize Israel’s response to Hamas’s attacks. Their Instagram account has even promoted pro-Hamas messages, including calls for “anti-colonial” terrorism in the United States. Adalah’s executive director, Sandra Tamari, has gone as far as praising the Hamas terrorists who carried out a deadly attack at a music festival, describing them as “the oppressed rising up” against Israeli “occupation” of Gaza.
But the connections don’t end there. Adalah has partnered with MPower Change, a “Muslim grassroots movement” led by notorious anti-Israel activist Linda Sarsour. Sarsour’s controversial remarks have led to corporations and Democrats distancing themselves from her. Even President Joe Biden’s campaign denounced Sarsour and the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement, of which she is a leader.
It’s clear that the Adalah Justice Project is deeply intertwined with extreme anti-Israel activists. Their communications director, Sumaya Awad, is a longtime anti-Israel activist and member of the Democratic Socialists of America. Awad even founded her college’s chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine, an organization that has recently organized pro-Hamas demonstrations across the country.
What are the consequences of perpetuating a false narrative about the Israel-Palestine conflict
Omidyar among its prominent donors. The Tides Center, known for its opaque funding sources, has been identified as a key conduit for funneling dark money into various left-wing causes and organizations.
By operating under the guise of a grassroots movement, Adalah is able to maintain a façade of legitimacy while advancing the radical agenda of its dark-money backers. The organization’s support for Hamas, a designated terrorist group responsible for countless acts of violence against innocent civilians, is deeply troubling and raises serious questions about their true motives and objectives.
It is important to understand the dangerous implications of Adalah’s activities. By advocating for the rights of a terrorist organization, they undermine the security and well-being of both Israelis and Palestinians. Hamas’s objectives are clear: the destruction of the State of Israel and the establishment of an Islamic caliphate in its place. Any support or endorsement of such a group is not only morally reprehensible but also poses a significant threat to regional stability.
Furthermore, the fact that Adalah operates under the umbrella of the Tides Center raises concerns about the transparency and accountability of its funding. Dark money, by its very nature, allows wealthy individuals and organizations to influence political outcomes without disclosing their identities. This lack of transparency subverts the democratic process and undermines the principles of open and transparent governance.
Whether intentionally or not, Adalah’s actions serve to perpetuate a false narrative that Israel is solely responsible for the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. This one-sided portrayal ignores the numerous attempts by Israel to negotiate a peaceful resolution and downplays the actions of Hamas, which uses innocent Palestinians as human shields and indiscriminately launches rockets into Israeli cities.
The Adalah Justice Project’s unmasking as a dark-money-backed organization raises serious concerns about the integrity and credibility of the progressive activist movement. It is imperative that the public, as well as policymakers, are aware of the true motives behind these seemingly grassroots organizations.
It is time to demand accountability and transparency from groups like Adalah and the Tides Center. We cannot tolerate the manipulation of our democratic processes and the promotion of dangerous ideologies under the guise of activism. The unmasking of Adalah is just the beginning – we must continue to shine a light on the dark money connections that fuel these deceptive movements and work towards a more transparent and accountable civil society.
