According to Jeremy Redfern, the press secretary of Gov. Ron DeSantis, the equipment transfer was carried out at the request of the Israeli Consul General in Miami and the Israeli government.
On Oct. 17, two cargo planes transported 85 pallets of donated supplies to hospitals and government agencies, while four-passenger flights rescued nearly 700 Americans from the war zone. Florida confirmed that the shipment included drones, body armor, helmets for first responders, and healthcare supplies.
“Since we were already sending supplies to Israel, Florida was able to include the body armor and helmets on our cargo flights,” said Mr. Redfern. “The state did not purchase these items.”
The Israeli government reached out to the governor’s office for assistance in overcoming bureaucratic obstacles related to the transportation of weapons and ammunition. Mr. Redfern clarified that this separate shipment was not purchased by Florida.

The specific details of the weapons transfer, including the identities of the private donors and the bureaucratic hurdles involved, remain undisclosed.
“It is not illegal for the governor of a state to offer foreign assistance,” stated John Kirby, a spokesperson for the White House’s National Security Council.
“There are laws and regulations governing the export process, handled through the Department of Commerce. I cannot confirm whether the governor has complied with all the necessary requirements.”
Since the surprise attack by Hamas on Oct. 7, Governor DeSantis has consistently expressed his pro-Israel stance. He mobilized emergency resources to organize rescue flights for stranded Americans and ordered the deactivation of National Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) chapters in consultation with State University System Chancellor Ray Rodrigues, citing their support for Hamas’ terrorism.
“National SJP has openly declared its involvement in the terrorist-led attack known as Operation Al-Aqsa Flood,” stated Mr. Rodrigues in an Oct. 24 memo addressed to university leaders.
“Based on National SJP’s support for terrorism, the student chapters must be deactivated in consultation with Governor DeSantis.”

Furthermore, Governor DeSantis has pledged to revoke the student visas of foreign students openly endorsing Hamas and has voiced opposition to accepting refugees from Gaza into the United States.
The Florida Legislature will convene for a special session on Nov. 6 to discuss the governor’s proposals for strengthening sanctions on Iran and enhancing protection for Jewish communities.
