Steelers’ Diontae Johnson: Refs Must Be Fined for No-Call on QB Injury
Steelers’ Diontae Johnson Calls for Referees to be Fined After Controversial Loss
Following the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 20-10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, wide receiver Diontae Johnson didn’t hold back in expressing his frustration with the referees. In a fiery post-game interview, Johnson called for the referees to be fined for their “terrible calls” that he believes cost his team the game.
Johnson didn’t mince words, stating, “[The referees] should get fined for making terrible calls. That’s how [mad] I am because they cost us the game. I don’t care what nobody says, they cost us the game.”
He even went as far as suggesting that the referees may have been influenced by outside factors, saying, “[The referees] must’ve got paid good today or something. [The referees] wanted [Jacksonville] to win. Everything was in their favor. They were getting every little call. But it is what it is.”
Johnson’s frustration stemmed from the roughing the passer calls, particularly one that was called against Pittsburgh and another that he believes the officials missed, resulting in quarterback Kenny Pickett’s rib injury.
The Steelers were also unhappy with an offsides call that wiped a field goal off the board at the end of the first half. Head coach Mike Tomlin expressed his disbelief, stating, “I hadn’t seen that called in 17 years of standing on the sidelines.”
Despite the controversial calls, the Steelers now have to regroup quickly as they prepare to host the Tennessee Titans on Thursday. Johnson and his teammates will need to put the frustration behind them and focus on bouncing back from this tough loss.
