However, a Department of Justice study in 2008 found little evidence that Australia’s gun confiscation program significantly impacted gun homicides and suicides in the country.
Despite the 1996 seizure, Australians still own 3.5 million legal and registered firearms, although the number of lawful gun owners has significantly declined.
