Israeli Forces Enter Hamas’ ‘Terrifying’ Terror Tunnels, Engage in Close-Quarters Battle
In the darkness below Gaza, Israeli soldiers and Hamas terrorists are locked in a deadly battle. This is a fight without glory or exploding targets, only fear and uncertainty in a treacherous spider web of tunnels.
Retired Gen. Joseph Votel, former leader of U.S. Central Command, warned that the fighting would be bloody and brutal.
The Israel Defense Forces announced that the battle for the extensive tunnel network beneath Gaza had begun.
The IDF reported striking around 300 targets, including missile launch posts and military compounds inside the tunnels.
Some footage from Saraya Al-Quds in 2021 via RT Arabic shows the extent of some of the tunnel systems under Gaza.
This only touches on a small part of what has been dug, build, created under those towns etc.

Israel has long dominated the airspace over Gaza, but Hamas has built an extensive network of tunnels to evade airstrikes. These tunnels even have headquarters under Gaza’s hospitals.
Entering these tunnels is a terrifying and claustrophobic experience, where soldiers must navigate in darkness and uncertainty.
According to Daphne Richemond Barak, an expert on underground warfare, Israel cannot win the war without eliminating Hamas’ tunnel network.
However, she acknowledges the challenges of clearing the tunnels, as there may be civilians and hostages inside.
Protecting civilians in the urban environment of the tunnels is also a complex issue.

As the Israeli forces venture into the depths of Hamas’ terror tunnels, a battle of life and death unfolds in the darkness beneath Gaza. This is not a conventional war with open battlefields and visible enemies. Instead, it is a grueling confrontation filled with fear and uncertainty, fought within the treacherous labyrinth of tunnels.
Prior to the commencement of the operation, Retired General Joseph Votel, former leader of U.S. Central Command, issued a sobering warning, stating that the fighting would be both bloody and brutal. His words have proven to be distressingly accurate.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) officially declared the initiation of the battle to eradicate the extensive tunnel network beneath Gaza. In their relentless pursuit of this objective, the IDF has struck around 300 targets, including missile launch sites and military compounds hidden within the tunnels.
Despite the Israeli offensive, Hamas has vowed to resist, dubbing Gaza the “cemetery of invaders.” The militants have built an intricate network of tunnels, enabling them to evade airstrikes throughout the conflict. It is worth noting that some tunnels even have headquarters situated beneath Gaza’s hospitals, exploiting the sanctity of these institutions for their nefarious purposes.
For Israeli soldiers, venturing into these tunnels is a terrifying and claustrophobic experience. Darkness obscures their vision, and uncertainty engulfs their every step. They navigate through this hostile environment with remarkable courage and dedication.
Daphne Richemond Barak, an expert on underground warfare, highlights the centrality of eliminating Hamas’ tunnel network for Israel’s strategic success. However, she also acknowledges the formidable challenges involved in clearing the tunnels, as there may be civilians and hostages held captive within them. Safeguarding civilians in this complex urban warfare situation presents an additional layer of complexity for the IDF.
Tragically, reports indicate that Palestinian civilians have fallen victim to Israeli airstrikes in heavily populated areas. The loss of innocent lives is a sober reminder of the immense human cost of conflict, further intensifying the urgency for a swift resolution and lasting peace.
Hamas boasts that its tunnel network hugs an impressive expanse of over 300 miles beneath Gaza. Considering the relatively small size of the territory, this vast and intricate network underscores the meticulous planning and execution by the militant group.
The battle between Israeli forces and Hamas within the terrifying depths of the terror tunnels represents a bleak reality of the Israel-Gaza conflict. It serves as a chilling reminder of the complex and multifaceted nature of modern warfare, where technological superiority does not guarantee victory. In the underground labyrinth, bravery, strategy, and a preservation of humanitarian principles are the keys to achieving peace.
