The Los Angeles City Council gathered on October 31 to honor the iconic Hollywood Sign, which was celebrating its 100th year anniversary. In recognition of this milestone, the council declared October 31 as “Hollywood Sign Day” in the city.

“The Hollywood Sign brings so many people here and generates significant revenue for the city. As we enter the next century, we must allocate some of those funds to maintain the surrounding park and ensure that this iconic sign remains a valuable resource for visitors without causing inconvenience to the residents,” expressed Ms. Raman.

In 1994, the developers of Hollywood Land donated the remaining undeveloped land, spanning 425 acres, to the city of Los Angeles. The city formally accepted the offer and incorporated it into its park acreage on January 30, 1945.
In 1978, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce launched a “Save the Sign” campaign to raise funds for a new, more permanent Hollywood Sign. The campaign successfully collected $250,000, and the sign was rebuilt in October 1978 after years of neglect and repair.
