Troy Terry scores OT goal, seals Ducks’ 4-3 win over Coyotes with 2nd hat trick.
Anaheim Ducks’ Troy Terry Completes Hat Trick in Overtime Victory
ANAHEIM, Calif.—Anaheim coach Greg Cronin had a question for Troy Terry before the Ducks faced the Arizona Coyotes on Wednesday night, Nov. 1.
On a team that boasts three of the NHL’s top 30 scorers, why wasn’t Terry one of them?
Terry took the challenge to heart and delivered. With just 1:33 left on the clock in overtime, the right wing scored the game-winning goal, completing the second hat trick of his career and securing the Ducks’ fifth consecutive win with a 4–3 victory over the Coyotes.

“I couldn’t be happier that we’ve been playing games. But selfishly, I’ve wanted to contribute more,” Terry expressed. “I was hoping that I can start putting these home and kind of take us to another level and hopefully add some more scoring.”
Terry had an outstanding performance, earning a career-high four points. He kicked off the night with two power-play goals in the first period and assisted on Leo Carlsson’s third-period goal, which sent the game into overtime.
Terry received a pass from Mason McTavish and scored the winning goal against Karel Vejmelka, securing the Ducks’ third overtime victory of the season. This goal also brought Terry’s season total to five goals and nine points.
Furthermore, this win marked the Ducks’ longest winning streak in two years.
The Ducks have now become the fourth team in NHL history to secure four victories in their first 10 games after trailing in the third period. The other teams to achieve this feat were Columbus (2021–22), Tampa Bay (2013–14), Detroit (2008–09), and Toronto (1934–35).
“They’re starting to figure it out and they’re able to transfer the practice stuff, and I think they can identify why we do certain things,” Cronin commented on his young squad. “Hopefully they continue to learn and build strength and confidence. And we can keep this going.”
This season has already seen three hat tricks from the Ducks, with Frank Vatrano scoring the other two. Additionally, this was the fourth time a Ducks’ player completed a hat trick with an overtime goal.
Lawson Crouse scored twice and Logan Cooley netted his first NHL goal for the Arizona Coyotes, who have lost two of their last three games.
Lukas Dostal made 32 saves for the Ducks.
Carlsson tied the game at 3 with a goal at 4:01 of the third period, redirecting Terry’s shot past Vejmelka.
J.J. Moser contributed two assists, and Vejmelka made 25 saves for the Coyotes.
The Ducks took an early 2–0 lead at 9:35 into the game after Terry’s second power-play goal. Although rookie defenseman Pavel Mintyukov hit the post on a breakaway attempt, Terry capitalized on the rebound, scoring his fourth goal of the season.
However, the Coyotes fought back and tied the game with goals from Crouse and Cooley.
Cooley scored his first NHL goal at 14:51, leveling the score at 2. He received a pass from Moser near the blue line, skated past Anaheim defenseman Jackson LaCombe, and found the top corner of the net behind Dostal.
“In the moment, it was the best feeling ever. It felt like I was on Cloud 9 there for a little bit, but I would’ve taken the win over that any day of the week,” Cooley shared about his goal. “It’s good to get off my shoulders, and now I can just play and focus on tomorrow’s game.”
The Coyotes took a 3–2 lead after 40 minutes when Crouse scored on a rebound at 14:25 of the second period. This marked the seventh multi-goal game of Crouse’s eight-year NHL career.
“I think we had a tough start. We battled back. We came back in the game, and we even had a lead, I think,” Arizona coach Andrè Tourigny said. ”We could expect to win in that type of situation. I did not like the way we played when we were under attack, and we need to be comfortable being uncomfortable, and we were not today.”
