Pelosi criticizes No Labels as Democrats worry about Biden challengers.

Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi Concerned About No Labels’s Third-Party Presidential Ticket

Speaker Emerita Nancy ⁢Pelosi (D-CA) has joined the growing chorus of Democrats expressing⁤ worry over No Labels’s efforts to introduce a third-party presidential ticket in 2024. Pelosi believes that this group is putting President Joe Biden’s chances of reelection at risk.

“No Labels is perilous to our democracy. I hesitate ‍to say ‍No Labels because⁤ they do have ‌labels,”‌ Pelosi told reporters on Thursday. “They’ve called for ⁢no taxes for⁣ the rich. ⁤No child tax credit for children. They’re called‌ let’s undo the Affordable Care Act.”

Pelosi made these remarks at a⁣ breakfast⁤ hosted by Third Way, a centrist group that is⁢ also critical of No⁣ Labels’s unity presidential ticket⁢ campaign. Third Way has accused No Labels of working against both Biden and former President Donald Trump in their respective White House bids.

While Pelosi had previously ignored No Labels’s efforts, the upcoming 2024 election has compelled her to speak out.

“When they ‌jeopardize the reelection of Joe Biden‌ as president of the United States, I can no longer remain silent on that,” Pelosi said.

No⁣ Labels has been advocating for a third-party candidate in multiple presidential contests. For the 2024 election, the group aims to provide alternatives to Trump or Biden for voters who want to avoid a⁤ repeat of 2020. They have secured ballot access in key‌ battleground states like Arizona,‌ North Carolina, Florida, and Nevada.

Despite denials from No Labels, Third Way, and Democratic allies, who argue ⁤that‌ No Labels’s efforts will benefit the GOP in 2024, Pelosi⁤ continues to voice her concerns.

“It’s ⁢so disheartening to see Nancy Pelosi literally make things up about No ‍Labels to score political points. She ascribes positions to No Labels that they never took. She accuses No Labels of causing chaos in the House even though they’ve spent 14 years working‌ to forge bipartisanship and combat the extremism destroying the country,” Former Maryland ‌Gov. Larry Hogan, national co-chairman for No Labels, said in a statement provided ⁢to the ‍Washington Examiner.

No Labels has clarified that launching a third-party ticket may⁤ become necessary in 2024 if ⁤both major parties nominate candidates⁤ that the majority of‌ Americans do not support.

“If this happens, No Labels itself will‌ not‌ run a candidate, but we will have the ⁢launching pad, specifically in the form of ballot⁤ access across the country,” ‍the group said in a statement in May.

No Labels has even considered the ‍possibility of putting a Republican‍ at the top of‍ their ticket, with Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) being courted as⁤ their standard-bearer. This strategic shift could impact⁣ Biden’s chances, as he would only ‌win Pennsylvania by a narrow margin in a Biden versus Trump race.

In the event that no candidate secures a ‍majority, No Labels hopes to trigger a contingent election, which would⁤ be decided by a special vote in the House of Representatives, potentially leading to chaos.

Democrats are already ‌facing internal challenges, as Rep. ⁣Dean Phillips ⁤(D-MN) launched‍ his campaign for the Democratic nomination,⁢ urging Biden to pass the torch⁢ to a new generation of leaders. However,‍ the party has firmly backed Biden and dismissed Phillips’s bid as impractical.

Biden has discussed the threat of a third-party candidate overshadowing his general election campaign with former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Clinton, who experienced a loss in 2016 attributed to Green Party ⁢nominee Jill Stein, advised Biden to take the third-party threat seriously and develop a strategy to counter it.

How ‌does the ⁤involvement of No Labels⁢ in the presidential race impact the ⁣unity of the Democratic party?

Political landscape when ⁣their goal is ‍to provide ‍more ⁣options for voters,” ⁢said John Avalon, co-founder of No ‍Labels.

However, Pelosi⁣ remains unconvinced and believes that⁤ No Labels’s involvement in the⁤ presidential⁤ race could divide the Democratic ‌party ‌and weaken Biden’s chances of⁣ winning a second term.

“We ⁢need⁣ unity, not division. No Labels’s third-party ticket only serves to splinter the Democratic vote and give the Republican party an advantage,” Pelosi‍ stated.

Pelosi’s ⁣concerns are shared by many within the Democratic party, who fear ⁣that a third-party ⁤candidate ‍could siphon⁢ votes away from Biden,⁢ ultimately leading to a Republican victory. ⁤While No Labels claims to be a centrist and‍ bipartisan movement, ‍some Democrats argue that their policies and objectives align more closely with conservative values.

Despite the controversy surrounding No Labels’s campaign, the group remains determined to provide alternative⁢ choices for voters dissatisfied with the two major parties.

“Our goal is not to undermine any candidate or party, but rather to expand the options⁢ available ⁣to voters. ‍We believe in the power‌ of choice⁤ and‌ electoral ‍competition,” said Lisa Borders, co-chair of No Labels.

However, with Pelosi and other prominent Democrats expressing their concerns, ⁢No‍ Labels may face an uphill battle in gaining support ⁣from the party they claim to ally with. For now, the debate continues as both sides ‌argue over the‍ potential impact of a third-party ticket on the 2024 presidential⁣ race.

As the 2024 election approaches, the stakes are high, and the ⁣role of third-party candidates has become a⁤ contentious‌ issue. While the ⁣idea of more choices may seem appealing to some⁢ voters, others worry about the potential consequences, particularly ‍in a ⁣closely contested race between the⁣ major parties.

Only time⁤ will tell how No Labels’s efforts will shape the upcoming election, but Nancy Pelosi’s concerns reflect‍ the ⁢growing sense ‌of unease within the‌ Democratic party. Whether No Labels’s unity ticket will⁢ be a disruptive force or a viable alternative remains to be seen, but for now, the debate surrounding their involvement⁤ continues to captivate the political sphere.
