Eric Swalwell accuses GOP of being ‘Team Hamas,’ despite his repeated praise for the terrorist group’s top funder.
Rep. Eric Swalwell’s Ties to Qatar and Hamas
Rep. Eric Swalwell (D., Calif.) recently made a controversial statement, claiming that Republicans are “Team Hamas.” Interestingly, one could argue that Swalwell himself is part of this team.
Swalwell has taken multiple trips to Qatar, an oil-rich Gulf nation and the largest financial supporter of Hamas. In 2021, he even met with the head of the Qatari government ministry that blamed Israel for Hamas’s attack. Swalwell publicly praised Qatar for its religious and cultural diversity during a trip to the World Cup, which was funded by the Qatari government.
These connections raise questions of hypocrisy. Swalwell accused Reps. Kevin McCarthy (R., Calif.) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R., Ga.) of being “on Team Hamas” due to their stance on aid to Ukraine. However, Qatar provides safe-harbor for Hamas leaders and financially supports the terrorist group. In fact, Qatar gave $360 million to Hamas in 2021, according to the Times of Israel.
Qatar’s support for terrorism has gained attention following Hamas’s recent attack on Israel. The Qatari ministry of foreign affairs, led by Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, blamed Israel for the attack, citing ongoing violations of Palestinian rights.
While Swalwell has criticized Hamas and expressed support for Israel, his trips to Qatar provide cover for the Islamist regime’s human rights abuses and support for terrorist organizations. Qatar spends millions of dollars each year to influence Washington, D.C., through lobbying, junkets, and donations to think tanks and universities.
During Swalwell’s trip to Qatar in April 2021, he and Rep. Ruben Gallego (D., Ariz.) met with Al Thani to discuss potential Qatari investment in the United States. They were also photographed riding camels shirtless in the Qatari desert. The U.S.-Qatar Business Council paid $84,000 for their five-day junket.
Additionally, Swalwell and Gallego visited the Qatar Foundation, a government-backed think tank, to learn about Qatar’s educational initiatives. However, the Qatar Foundation has ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas. In 2009, it even named a research center after Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, a prominent Muslim Brotherhood figure who resides in Doha and has made anti-Semitic remarks.
Furthermore, Swalwell and Gallego met with Hind Abdul Rahman al-Muftah, a Qatari diplomat known for her anti-Semitic comments. She has propagated conspiracy theories about Jewish control of the media and expressed hostility towards Jews and Zionism.
Swalwell’s trips to Doha in October 2020 and January 2022 were funded by the Qatari government, as stated in his financial disclosures. However, his office declined to comment on these matters.
How does Swalwell’s association with Qatar indirectly support Hamas, a designated terrorist group by the United States?
Lly supports the organization, which has been designated as a terrorist group by the United States. By praising and associating with Qatar, Swalwell is indirectly supporting Hamas and undermining his credibility on the issue.
Furthermore, Swalwell’s ties to Qatar go beyond mere political visits. According to a recent bombshell report, Swalwell was targeted by a suspected Chinese intelligence operative named Fang Fang, or Christine Fang, who developed close relationships with politicians in the San Francisco Bay Area. Swalwell allegedly had a close relationship with Fang, with reports indicating that she fundraised for his 2014 re-election campaign and even placed an intern in his office.
But what does this have to do with Qatar and Hamas? It turns out that Qatar also has deep economic and political ties with China. As Swalwell was building connections with Qatar, he may have inadvertently exposed himself to Chinese influence through his association with Fang. This raises serious concerns about Swalwell’s judgment and his ability to prioritize American interests over personal gain.
The issue becomes even more disturbing when considering the fact that Hamas, the organization supported by Qatar, is a sworn enemy of Israel, a key U.S. ally in the Middle East. Swalwell’s praise for Qatar and its support for Hamas raises questions about where his true loyalties lie. Is he truly committed to supporting Israel’s security and fighting terrorism, or is he more interested in maintaining personal relationships and pursuing his own political agenda?
Moreover, Swalwell’s statements and actions are not only concerning from a national security perspective, but also raise ethical questions. As a member of Congress, Swalwell has a responsibility to uphold the highest standards of integrity and to act in the best interest of the American people. By engaging with Qatar and Hamas, Swalwell may be compromising this responsibility and potentially jeopardizing U.S. national security.
It is clear that Swalwell’s ties to Qatar and Hamas are problematic and raise serious doubts about his judgment, integrity, and commitment to protecting American interests. Americans deserve elected officials who prioritize national security and who are free from foreign influence. Swalwell’s associations with Qatar and his support for Hamas undermine these principles and should be a cause for concern.
In conclusion, Rep. Eric Swalwell’s ties to Qatar and Hamas are deeply troubling and contradictory to his public statements and political agenda. Whether it is his praise for Qatar, his association with a suspected Chinese intelligence operative, or his support for Hamas, Swalwell’s actions raise serious questions about his credibility, integrity, and loyalty to the American people. It is imperative that Swalwell addresses these concerns and provides an explanation for his questionable ties to Qatar and Hamas.
