Third suspect surrenders in Massachusetts shooting linked to newborn baby’s death.
Holyoke Shooting Suspect Surrenders, Charged with Murder
In a dramatic turn of events, a third suspect has finally turned himself in to police in connection with a tragic shooting incident that occurred in Holyoke last month. The incident involved a pregnant woman who was struck by a stray bullet while riding a bus, ultimately leading to the death of her unborn child.
The suspect, Kermith Alvarez, 28, had been on the run since the October 4 shooting and was even placed on the Massachusetts State Police’s 10 most wanted list. However, he surrendered to authorities on Friday, according to the Hampden District Attorney’s office.
Alvarez is set to be arraigned on Monday in Holyoke District Court, facing a murder charge. As of now, he has not been assigned an attorney to represent him.
Prosecutors have already named five individuals in connection with the shooting, stating that all suspects have been identified and are now in custody. This development brings some relief to the community, as law enforcement officials work tirelessly to bring justice to the victims.
Two other suspects, Johnluis Sanchez, 30, and Alejandro Ramos, 22, both from Holyoke, were previously arraigned on murder charges. Sanchez was also injured during the incident and remains hospitalized.
Sanchez and Ramos both pleaded not guilty during their arraignment and are currently being held without bail. Additionally, two other individuals have been charged with accessory after the fact for allegedly aiding Alvarez in evading the police.
According to investigators, Alvarez, Sanchez, and Ramos were involved in a heated altercation that tragically escalated into a shooting. It is believed that one of the bullets fired during the altercation struck the pregnant woman who was innocently sitting on the bus.
The injured woman was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors performed an emergency C-section to deliver the baby. Despite their best efforts, the newborn tragically did not survive.
