PragerU’s ‘DETRANS’ Doc Takes Over X: Beware Gender-Affirming Care
In a groundbreaking documentary by PragerU, courageous young adults who have de-transitioned from radical sex-change treatments they received as minors open up about the false promises and devastating consequences of so-called “gender-affirming care.”
Entitled “DETRANS: The Dangers of Gender-Affirming Care,” this powerful 21-minute film focuses on the stories of two individuals who deeply regret their decision to undergo hormone therapy and surgeries to reject their biological sex.
Daisy Strongin, one of the featured individuals, shares, “There are so many young people going through similar experiences as I did, still being told that transitioning will save them. But it’s simply not true. My story is tragic in some ways, but it’s also incredibly redemptive.”
Strongin’s journey began when she was just a minor, battling severe depression and struggling with her self-worth. Desperate for answers, she turned to the internet, seeking solace and guidance.
After consuming countless gender transformation videos on platforms like YouTube and Tumblr, Strongin became increasingly fascinated with adopting a male persona. She explains, “The more time I spent online, the more it felt like real life. And the more real it felt, the more I felt compelled to fully transition.”
Eventually, Strongin changed her identity and sought help from a behavioral mental health clinic. However, instead of receiving comprehensive mental health assessments, she was swiftly put on a fast track to medical transition.
Abel Garcia, another individual featured in the documentary, shares a similar experience. While browsing YouTube during middle school, a video depicting a male transitioning to a female planted a seed of doubt in his mind, setting him on a path towards his own transition.
Garcia recalls, “I just wanted answers about who I was. So, I went to see a therapist and simply asked, ‘I think I might be trans, I don’t know – I want to know.'”
During his very first appointment, the therapist immediately labeled Garcia as a “transgender woman.”
Conservative Attorney Harmeet Dhillon, who represents clients suing healthcare providers for performing “gender-affirming” surgeries on minors, suggests that the surge in media and social media depictions of transgenderism has contributed to the increase in minors seeking transition.
“It has even infiltrated mainstream advertising,” Dhillon warns. “And the implications for our society are profound.”

PragerU has taken a bold step in countering the advertising world by purchasing a “takeover” ad on X as part of their $1 million marketing campaign to promote the documentary.
Craig Strazzeri, the chief marketing officer for PragerU, explains, “We chose X because it provides a unique opportunity to reach a massive audience with uncensored content. This will allow millions of people to hear the important stories of detransitioners, many of whom have been silenced and marginalized by the mainstream media.”
“DETRANS: The Dangers of Gender-Affirming Care” is now available for free streaming on the PragerU website.
Why did both Strongin and Garcia initially believe that transitioning would solve their problems, and why did they later realize this was a mistake?
Ards self-doubt and confusion about his own identity.
Garcia recalls, ”I had always felt a bit different from my peers, but watching that video made me question if it was because I was meant to be a girl. I started researching online and seeking advice from online communities, leading me to believe that transitioning was the answer to all my problems.”
Both Strongin and Garcia underwent hormone therapy, which consisted of injecting testosterone and estrogen into their bodies to artificially alter their biological sex. They also underwent invasive surgeries to remove or reshape body parts associated with their biological sex.
However, as time went on, both individuals began to realize the grave mistake they had made. The promises of happiness and fulfillment that were sold to them by doctors and experts in the field turned out to be empty and false.
Garcia explains, ”I expected that transitioning would solve all of my insecurities and inner turmoil, but instead, it only created more. The physical changes and the constant pressure to conform to societal expectations of what it means to be a man or a woman became overwhelming for me.”
Similarly, Strongin shares, ”I believed that transitioning would solve all my problems and make me finally feel like I belonged. But instead, I felt even more isolated, disconnected from my true self.”
The documentary also sheds light on the alarming lack of thorough mental health assessments and counseling that these individuals received prior to undergoing gender-affirming procedures. Instead of being provided with the necessary support to explore their feelings and address the root causes of their distress, they were quickly pushed into irreversible medical treatments.
Mental health experts in the film stress the importance of comprehensive assessments and counseling as essential components of gender dysphoria treatment. They emphasize the need to identify and address underlying mental health issues that may be contributing to the individual’s desire to transition.
“DETRANS: The Dangers of Gender-Affirming Care” serves as a powerful reminder of the potential harm that can be caused by rushing individuals into irreversible medical procedures without proper evaluation and consideration of all possible alternatives.
The film raises crucial questions about the current approach to gender-affirming care and urges for a more cautious and comprehensive approach that prioritizes individual well-being and long-term outcomes. It advocates for more research and dialogue surrounding the impacts of these treatments on both minors and adults, with the goal of providing informed and ethical care for those experiencing gender dysphoria.
Daisy Strongin and Abel Garcia’s stories serve as cautionary tales for young people who may be considering radical sex-change treatments. They highlight the importance of self-reflection, therapy, and support in navigating one’s sense of identity and ultimately making informed decisions about their own bodies and lives.
Ultimately, this groundbreaking documentary challenges the prevailing narrative surrounding gender-affirming care and encourages a more balanced and thoughtful approach to addressing the complex and deeply personal experiences of those who experience gender dysphoria.
