Democrat billionaire Bill Ackman raises alarm over escalating anti-Semitism at Harvard.
Billionaire Hedge Fund Manager Slams Harvard President for Allowing Anti-Semitism on Campus
Billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman recently penned a scathing letter to Harvard President Claudine Gay, expressing his concerns about the growing number of anti-Semitic incidents on campus. In the letter, which he shared on social media, Ackman criticized Gay for creating an environment where Jewish students are being attacked by pro-Hamas activists.
The letter comes in the wake of a horrific attack by Hamas, which resulted in the death of 1,400 Israelis, the injury of over 5,300 individuals, and the kidnapping of more than 240 people on October 7.
Ackman revealed that he had been in dialogue with various members of the corporation board, alumni, students, and faculty for the past four weeks, sharing their concerns and waiting for action from the university. However, he expressed his disappointment and loss of confidence in Gay and the university’s ability to address the issue effectively.
After meeting with Jewish, Israeli, and non-Jewish students and faculty at the Law School, Ackman realized that the situation at Harvard was far worse than he had initially thought. He witnessed Jewish students being bullied, physically intimidated, spat on, and even physically assaulted, as captured in widely-disseminated videos. He also discovered that student Slack message boards were filled with anti-Semitic statements, memes, and images.
Ackman criticized Gay for allowing the protesters to make eliminationist and anti-Semitic statements on campus, despite the potential violation of the First Amendment. He also highlighted Harvard’s poor ranking in supporting free speech, as reported by The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) Annual College Free Speech Rankings.
Expressing his sadness, Ackman emphasized that Harvard had become a place where Jewish students feared physical violence and had to endure classmates openly posting anti-Semitic content without facing any consequences. He also criticized Harvard’s Office of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging, stating that it did not support Jewish, Asian, and non-LGBTQIA White students.
In his letter, Ackman called on Gay to take immediate action, including suspending students involved in attacking Jewish students, addressing far-left extremists chanting for the elimination of Israel, and taking disciplinary actions against students spreading anti-Semitism through Slack channels. He also urged Gay to establish a task force to address the issues within the DEI office, release the results of the anti-Semitism task force’s investigation, and make it clear that while free speech is tolerated, hate speech and incitement to violence are not acceptable at Harvard.
