A Fox News Reporter’s Close Call with a Hamas Rocket
In a heart-stopping moment, a Fox News reporter covering Israel’s war against terror narrowly escaped being struck by a rocket fired by Hamas from inside Gaza. The incident occurred as the reporter, along with other journalists, had gathered near a kindergarten in the southern part of the country, close to Israel’s border with Gaza.
The reporter, Trey Yingst, was interviewed about the terrifying blast that damaged the building and several vehicles. Fox News anchor Kayleigh McEnany also provided her account of the incident, as alarms continued to sound and Israeli soldiers and police officers rushed to the scene to assess any injuries.
Shrapnel from the rocket, which had managed to slip past Israel’s Iron Dome system, was visibly embedded in the walls. Yingst pointed out a piece of the rocket, explaining that it was shrapnel collected from the blast site.

The reporter emphasized that Israel had been targeted by numerous rockets, overwhelming the Iron Dome system’s ability to intercept them all. He even showed viewers a piece of the missile, identifying it as the engine.

Yingst went on to explain that the Iron Dome system intentionally allows some rockets to pass through if they are headed towards evacuated areas. This strategy aims to preserve more effective rockets for use in densely populated regions, ultimately saving lives.
The reporter also shared a video captured by a CNN photojournalist, Matthias Somm, showing the moment the rocket exploded just a short distance away from where the journalists were stationed.

In a separate video, Yingst described the harrowing experience of the missile exploding near him. He used the footage to highlight the incredibly short amount of time Israeli civilians have to react when a projectile is fired and not intercepted – less than 10 seconds.

Reflecting on the incident, Yingst emphasized the urgency faced by people in southern communities when rockets are fired. He expressed gratitude that no one was injured or killed in this instance.
