“Anyone who believes there should be no exceptions for rape and incest could never understand what it’s like to stand in my shoes,” she declared in a statewide ad sponsored by Beshear’s reelection campaign.
In response to these ads and a similar one, Cameron pledged to sign a bill including exceptions for rape and incest if it were passed by Kentucky’s Republican-controlled state legislature. He condemned the ad as “despicable.”
The GOP sought to nationalize the race, appealing to the state’s Republican base by emphasizing Cameron’s commitment to preventing lockdowns, reducing violent crime, improving schools, and reversing what they referred to as “Beshear-backed Bidenomics.”
