While Owen may have emerged as the victor, it was Gibson who received the most attention during the race. Two months before the election, she was exposed for participating in pornography to earn online tips. Gibson and her husband filmed explicit videos, which she uploaded to a publicly accessible site.
Gibson, a 40-year-old nurse practitioner and mother of two, denounced the revelation as an “illegal invasion of privacy,” despite being the one who uploaded the content. She accused her political opponents and their Republican allies of committing a sex crime to attack her and her family.
Gibson ran on a pro-abortion platform, vowing to fight for reproductive freedom.

Despite Owen’s win, many Republicans are disappointed with the election results in Virginia. Democrats retained control of the state Senate and flipped the House of Delegates to blue.
