Five Republican Candidates Set to Take the Stage in Miami for Third Presidential Primary Debate
Get ready for an exciting showdown in Miami, Florida, as five Republican candidates gear up for the highly anticipated third presidential primary debate of the 2024 election cycle. According to The Hill, the lineup includes Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, U.S. Sen. Tim Scott, and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.
To secure a spot on the debate stage, candidates had to meet specific criteria set by the Republican National Committee. This included polling at 4 percent in two national polls or 4 percent in one national poll and two polls from states voting early in the primary election cycle. Additionally, candidates needed to have at least 70,000 unique donors, with a minimum of 200 donors in 20 or more states each.
Unfortunately, North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum and former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson did not meet the requirements and will not be participating in the debate. Additionally, former Vice President Mike Pence recently announced the end of his presidential bid, removing himself from the debate as well.
In an exciting development, RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel revealed that the GOP will be partnering with the Republican Jewish Coalition to host the debate. This decision comes at a crucial time, with a rise in antisemitism in the United States following the Israel-Hamas war.

The debate will be moderated by “NBC Nightly News” host Lester Holt, “Meet the Press” host Kristen Welker, and conservative radio talk show host Hugh Hewitt, as reported by NPR. The candidates can expect to face a range of pressing issues, including the Israel-Hamas war, antisemitism, the economy, abortion, and the results of Tuesday’s off-year elections.
Leading the pack among the participating candidates is Ron DeSantis, with 14.6 percent support in the Real Clear Politics average. Nikki Haley follows closely behind at 9.4 percent, while Vivek Ramaswamy, Tim Scott, and Chris Christie trail with 4.4 percent and 2.6 percent respectively.
A recent Trafalgar Group poll shows Nikki Haley leading Ron DeSantis by a margin of 15 to 13 percent.
However, it’s important to note that former President Donald Trump continues to dominate the field, with an impressive 58.3 percent backing in the RCP average.

While the debate takes place, former President Donald Trump has decided to hold a rally in nearby Hialeah, Florida. Trump believes it doesn’t make sense for him to participate in the debates given his significant lead in the polls. Furthermore, he wants to avoid giving the other candidates a platform by appearing alongside them, according to NPR.
Hialeah, known for its large Hispanic community, played a crucial role in Trump’s victory in the Sunshine State during the 2020 election. Trump’s rally is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Eastern Time, followed by the Republican debate at 8 p.m.

What advantages does Gov. Ron DeSantis have as the host state governor in terms of gaining support from Floridian Republicans?
Ith a substantial lead over all the candidates. According to the same Real Clear Politics average, Trump holds a commanding 44.1 percent support among Republicans. This fact raises questions about the impact the other candidates can make in this election cycle and their ability to challenge Trump’s strong base of support.
The upcoming debate will undoubtedly serve as a crucial opportunity for each candidate to differentiate themselves and gain momentum in this highly competitive race. Gov. Ron DeSantis, as the host state governor, can expect to attract attention and support from Floridian Republicans. His handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and conservative policies have garnered him national recognition and appeal among Republican voters.
Nikki Haley, as a former ambassador to the United Nations and governor of South Carolina, brings a strong foreign policy background and administrative experience to the table. Her conservative record and status as a minority candidate make her an intriguing option for voters looking for a diverse and experienced leader.
Vivek Ramaswamy, the youngest candidate in the field, represents the millennial generation and the entrepreneurial spirit. As a successful businessman and venture capitalist, Ramaswamy presents himself as an outsider who can bring fresh ideas and a different approach to Republican politics.
Tim Scott, the only Black Republican senator, brings a unique perspective on issues of race and social justice. His conservative values and ability to connect with a wide range of voters have made him a rising star within the party.
Lastly, Chris Christie, the former governor of New Jersey, presents himself as a moderate candidate who can appeal to independent and moderate voters. His experience in handling crises and his vocal criticism of former President Trump could position him as a candidate who can bridge the gap between different factions within the party.
As the debate approaches, it will be interesting to see how these candidates navigate the issues and articulate their policies. They will undoubtedly face tough questions and criticisms from both the moderators and their fellow candidates. The stakes are high, as this debate could potentially shape the trajectory of the Republican primary and determine who emerges as the main challenger to former President Trump.
In conclusion, the third presidential primary debate for the Republican Party promises to be an exciting event filled with heated exchanges and policy discussions. The lineup of candidates represents a diverse range of backgrounds and ideologies within the party. While former President Trump maintains a significant lead, this debate presents an opportunity for the other candidates to make a mark and gain momentum in the race. All eyes will be on Miami as these five Republicans take the stage and vie for the support of their party and the American people.
