A suspected human smuggler drove a car full of people from Honduras into an SUV in Texas, resulting in the tragic deaths of eight individuals, according to state authorities.

“The driver drove head-on with a Chevy SUV, causing the vehicle to burst into flames, killing the driver and passenger from Georgia,” stated the DPS spokesperson.
“As a result, five passengers, including the suspected smuggler of the Honda, were killed. Troopers confirmed several of the deceased are from Honduras,” added the DPS representative.

The DPS spokesperson, Lt. Christopher Olivarez, shared images from the scene, revealing the wreckage of both vehicles.
He provided an update identifying the occupants of the Chevy SUV as Jose Lerma, 67, and Isabel Lerma, 65, of Dalton, Georgia, in WhitField County, and confirmed that their family had been notified.

CNN reported that Olivarez later informed the cable news network that six passengers in the Honda had lost their lives, resulting in a total of at least eight deceased victims.
Fox News reporter Bill Melugin stated that DPS is investigating the legal status of the suspected human smuggler and highlighted that the passengers in the Honda were illegal immigrants.
