Electric Vehicle Nightmare: Long Lines and Recharging Headaches
The Biden administration’s ambitious vision of a future dominated by electric vehicles is quickly unraveling as reports of recharging nightmares continue to mount.
In recent years, countless anecdotes have emerged of drivers spending hours searching for a charging station, only to endure lengthy waits for their vehicles to fully charge.
One TikTok user recently shared a video of a crowded charging station in Burbank, California, with a long line of EVs waiting their turn.

Imagine the outrage if people had to wait in long lines at gas stations to refuel, only to spend hours filling up their tanks. This is the frustrating reality for many EV owners.
In the video, rows of cars sit in a parking lot, recharging, while a long line of EVs waits for a charging station to become available.
According to Mike Kendall, the TikTok user who posted the video, people are forced to wait for hours, even late into the night, just to charge their cars.
But the problems with EVs don’t end there. Reports of spontaneous battery fires, limited towing capacity, cold-weather range malfunctions, and recharging headaches have plagued the industry.
Ironically, the production of electric vehicles is also environmentally damaging, requiring the mining of large amounts of materials.
Physicist Mark Mills explains that making an electric vehicle requires mining significantly more materials than a conventional vehicle, by about 1,000 percent on average.
Furthermore, the vulnerability of the U.S. electric grid poses a national security threat. If the grid is hacked, as cyberwarfare escalates, EV owners won’t be able to charge their vehicles.
While there are certainly EV enthusiasts, the federal government should not destroy the oil industry and compromise U.S. energy independence to force Americans to switch to EVs.
Transitioning millions of Americans to green energy will be inconvenient, expensive, and may not even be better for the environment.

Why is the current number of public charging stations in the United States insufficient to meet the growing demand for electric vehicles?
Ording to the Department of Energy, there are over 100,000 public charging stations across the United States. However, this number is nowhere near sufficient to meet the growing demand for electric vehicles. As more people make the switch to EVs, the infrastructure simply cannot keep up.
This issue is further exacerbated by the fact that charging an electric vehicle takes much longer than refueling a conventional gasoline car. While it may take just a few minutes to fill up a gas tank, charging an electric vehicle can take anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours, depending on the charger’s speed. This means that even if there are available charging stations, drivers may have to endure significant wait times before their vehicles are fully charged.
The consequences of these recharging nightmares are twofold. Firstly, they create frustration and inconvenience for EV owners who rely on their vehicles for daily transportation. It can be incredibly frustrating to spend hours searching for a charging station or waiting in line, especially when time is of the essence. This inconvenience may discourage some people from switching to electric vehicles altogether.
Secondly, the lack of a reliable charging infrastructure hinders the wider adoption of electric vehicles. Potential buyers may hesitate to invest in an electric vehicle if they believe that recharging will be a constant hassle. Without a robust charging network, electric vehicles will remain a niche market, unable to achieve the widespread acceptance necessary to reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change.
The Biden administration acknowledged the importance of infrastructure development in supporting the transition to electric vehicles. In his infrastructure plan, President Biden proposed investing $174 billion to expand the charging infrastructure nationwide, with the goal of installing 500,000 new charging stations by 2030. While this is a step in the right direction, it remains to be seen if these efforts will be enough to address the current recharging nightmares faced by EV owners.
In conclusion, the dream of a future dominated by electric vehicles is currently being hindered by recharging nightmares and long lines. The lack of sufficient charging infrastructure, coupled with the longer charging times compared to gasoline refueling, creates frustration and inconvenience for EV owners. It also poses a significant barrier to the wider adoption of electric vehicles. To fully realize the potential of electric vehicles and combat climate change, it is crucial to invest in and develop a robust network of charging stations across the country. Only then can we turn the electric vehicle nightmare into a sustainable and efficient reality.
