Vivek Ramaswamy faced criticism from Republican National Committee chairwoman Ronna McDaniel during the GOP debate the previous night. McDaniel called for Ramaswamy’s resignation from his position, sparking a heated exchange.
McDaniel responded to Ramaswamy’s criticism by stating, “He’s at 4%. He needs a headline.” This remark came after Ramaswamy labeled the GOP as a “party of losers” and called for McDaniel’s resignation.
“Ronna, if you want to come on stage tonight, you want to look the GOP voters in the eye and tell them you resign. I will turn over my—yield my time to you,” Ramaswamy said.
“The RNC doesn’t do state races; we’re a federal committee. So we weren’t involved in those races on Tuesday,” McDaniel told Varney. “I know that Vivek is kind of newer to the party—he voted for Obama—so he may not know that.”
Ramaswamy clarified that he did not vote in any presidential election from 2008 to 2016 and instead supported Donald Trump in 2020 and Libertarian Michael Badnarik in 2004.
Currently, Ramaswamy ranks fourth among GOP candidates for 2024 with an average support score of 4.7% in the RealClearPolitics aggregate.
According to reports, McDaniel allegedly referred to Ramaswamy as “an a-hole” in response to his criticism. However, an RNC spokesperson denied these rumors, leading to further tension between the two.
Ramaswamy took to Twitter to reiterate his call for McDaniel’s resignation, stating, “Ronna should resign. This shouldn’t be controversial. Instead, she reportedly said the RNC won’t give me ‘one cent’ of funding – which proves my point about RNC corruption. And this morning she is flat-out *lying* by saying I voted for Obama. Swing-and-a-miss, but keep trying.”
“I’ve heard this reporting. I didn’t speak to Vivek. I have not spoken to him since those comments,” McDaniel maintained.
Ramaswamy also criticized the RNC’s decision to collaborate with NBC News on the third debate and questioned the choice of moderators. He suggested that Tucker Carlson, Joe Rogan, and Elon Musk would attract more viewers and ask questions that GOP primary voters actually care about.
“I stand by our choice to go with a non-conservative media outlet. I think NBC did a great job,” McDaniel said, doubling down. “Forty-two percent of our country is independent. We’re not going to win elections if we sit in echo chambers…If you can’t take a tough question, then you probably shouldn’t be running for president,” she added.

How did Ronna McDaniel respond to Vivek Ramaswamy’s call for her resignation, and what reasons did she give for dismissing his criticism?
Title: Heated Exchange between RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel and GOP Candidate Vivek Ramaswamy
Introduction:
In a recent GOP debate, tensions flared between Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel and GOP candidate Vivek Ramaswamy. The heated exchange, marked by strong comments and calls for resignations, has highlighted the divisions within the party as preparations for the upcoming 2024 elections begin.
Background:
During the debate, McDaniel criticized Ramaswamy, calling for his resignation from the party. Ramaswamy responded by dubbing the GOP as a “party of losers” and demanding McDaniel’s resignation. The clash intensified as both figures volleyed accusations and engaged in a battle of words.
McDaniel’s Criticism and Ramaswamy’s Response:
Responding to Ramaswamy’s criticism, McDaniel dismissed his remarks by highlighting his low polling numbers, stating, “He’s at 4%. He needs a headline.” Ramaswamy, undeterred, challenged McDaniel directly on stage, offering her the opportunity to resign in front of GOP voters. However, McDaniel clarified that the RNC’s responsibilities lie with federal elections, not state races, suggesting Ramaswamy may not fully understand the party’s operations.
Clarification and Allegations:
Ramaswamy clarified his voting record, revealing that he had not participated in any presidential election from 2008 to 2016. Instead, he expressed his support for Donald Trump in 2020 and Libertarian candidate Michael Badnarik in 2004. Allegations emerged that McDaniel referred to Ramaswamy as ”an a-hole” in response to his criticism. However, an RNC spokesperson denied these claims, creating further tension between the two individuals.
Ramaswamy’s Call for Resignation:
Taking to Twitter, Ramaswamy reiterated his call for McDaniel’s resignation, claiming that it should not be a controversial demand. He criticized the RNC further, accusing them of corruption and revealing that McDaniel allegedly stated they would not provide any funding for his campaign. McDaniel denied speaking to Ramaswamy since the comments were made and disputed his claim that she accused him of voting for Obama.
Debate Collaboration and Moderator Choices:
Ramaswamy also criticized the RNC’s decision to collaborate with NBC News for the third debate. He questioned the choice of moderators and suggested that figures like Tucker Carlson, Joe Rogan, and Elon Musk would attract more viewers and delve into issues that GOP primary voters truly care about. McDaniel defended the decision, emphasizing the importance of engaging with the independent voters who constitute 42% of the country.
Conclusion:
The clash between Ronna McDaniel and Vivek Ramaswamy in the recent GOP debate highlights the division and contrasting opinions within the Republican Party. The exchange showcased the escalating tensions among candidates as they vie for support ahead of the 2024 elections. As the campaigning intensifies, it remains to be seen how these disagreements will shape the political landscape moving forward.
