FBI agents made a dramatic move earlier this week by seizing the electronic devices of New York City mayor Eric Adams, according to a report by the New York Times. This action comes just days after a raid on the home of his chief campaign fundraiser, adding fuel to the fire of speculation surrounding his mayoral campaign.
The seized devices, including at least two cellphones and an iPad, were fortunately returned to Adams within a short period of time, as reported by the Times.
What prompted this bold move by federal authorities? An ongoing investigation is underway to determine whether Adams’s 2021 mayoral campaign colluded with a Brooklyn construction company and the Turkish government to funnel foreign funds into the campaign through a straw donor scheme, as revealed by the Times.
Both the FBI and Adams’s office have remained tight-lipped about the recent reports of the electronic devices being seized, leaving many questions unanswered.
Interestingly, Adams, a Democrat, had to abruptly cancel his scheduled meetings with U.S. government officials in Washington. He had traveled there to discuss the city’s shelter crisis for asylum seekers and other migrants who recently arrived. However, the urgency of the situation forced him to return to New York.
