Democrat Senator Joe Manchin has expressed his openness to a presidential run in 2024, stating that he would “absolutely” consider it.
In an interview with “CBS Evening News” anchor and managing editor Norah O’Donnell, Manchin (D-W.Va.) revealed his potential interest in running for the White House.
“I will do anything I can to help my country, and you’re saying, ‘Does that mean you would consider it?’ Absolutely,” Manchin told O’Donnell.
Manchin emphasized the importance of researching if there is enough support for a moderate candidate like himself.
“I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure, to mobilize that moderate, sensible, commonsense middle,” he said.
During the interview, Manchin expressed his fear of another four years of former President Donald Trump in the White House, stating that it could lead to the loss of democracy as we know it.
“I’m totally, absolutely scared to death that Donald Trump would become president again,” he said. “I think we will lose democracy as we know it.”
