Abortion Activists Name Republican-Controlled Nebraska As Next Radical Ballot Battleground
Planned Parenthood and Allies Push for Unlimited Abortion in Nebraska
A coalition consisting of Planned Parenthood, the ACLU of Nebraska, the Women’s Fund, and I Be Black Girl has joined forces to propose a petition that aims to establish unrestricted abortion rights throughout all nine months of pregnancy in the Nebraska state constitution.
This petition comes on the heels of a successful abortion amendment in Ohio, drafted by the ACLU, and is part of a coordinated effort by national abortion activists to infiltrate conservative states, bypass Republican lawmakers, and embed abortion and radical gender ideology into state constitutions.
In order to place the constitutional amendment on the November 2024 ballot, the coalition must gather approximately 125,000 verified signatures by the summer of 2024. However, Republicans currently hold control over the governorship, secretary of state, attorney general’s office, and state legislature in Nebraska. They have already enacted laws banning abortions beyond 12 weeks gestation and prohibiting mail-order abortion pills.
The proposed amendment by these organizations threatens to eliminate Nebraska’s ability to limit abortions to 15 weeks, despite the fact that a majority of Americans support such restrictions. It also seeks to remove important safeguards such as mandatory waiting periods, parental consent laws, and bans on mailed chemical abortifacients.
Furthermore, the amendment leaves the definition of “viability” in the hands of abortionists, potentially excluding babies who require extraordinary medical measures to survive outside the womb. It also includes a broad exception for abortions deemed necessary to protect the “health” of the pregnant patient, which could be interpreted to include financial, emotional, familial, mental, or other reasons.
Nebraska Republicans and the Pro-Life Coalition must act swiftly to combat these efforts and counter the lies and deception surrounding this ballot fight. The corporate media is already portraying the Nebraska proposal as a victory for abortion activists in a Republican-controlled state.
“Nebraska’s law currently allows abortion throughout the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, but that isn’t enough for the abortion industry and activists who are trying to write second- and third-trimester abortions into our constitution. This amendment would allow for abortion until the moment of birth,” said Sandy Danek, Executive Director of Nebraska Right to Life.

What are the arguments made by advocates for unrestricted abortion rights, and how do opponents of this viewpoint argue against them?
Ary of state, attorney general, and legislature in Nebraska, making it unlikely that the proposal will gain the necessary support to be included on the ballot.
The push for unlimited abortion rights in Nebraska goes against the values and beliefs held by many Nebraskans. This conservative state has consistently upheld pro-life policies and laws, reflecting the majority sentiment of its citizens. The proposal submitted by Planned Parenthood and its allies directly challenges these beliefs and seeks to dismantle the protections currently in place for the unborn.
Advocates for unrestricted abortion argue that it is a matter of reproductive rights and bodily autonomy for women. They claim that women should have the right to make decisions about their own bodies, including the choice to terminate a pregnancy, at any point during gestation. However, opponents of this viewpoint argue that this unrestricted access to abortion disregards the rights and value of the unborn child.
The proposed amendment would not only allow for abortion throughout the entire nine months of pregnancy but would also remove any restrictions or regulations on the procedure. This would eliminate common-sense measures such as parental consent for minors seeking an abortion and waiting periods that allow women time for reflection and consideration before making such a life-altering decision.
Furthermore, this push for unlimited abortion rights is part of a larger strategy by national abortion activists to infiltrate conservative states. Rather than working within the established legislative process and respecting the democratic will of the people, these activists aim to bypass Republican lawmakers and embed their ideology directly into state constitutions. This approach undermines the democratic process and disenfranchises those who hold opposing views.
Planned Parenthood and its allies are well aware of the uphill battle they face in Nebraska. With Republican control over the government and the prevailing pro-life sentiment in the state, it is unlikely that their proposal will gain sufficient support. However, the purpose of their petition may extend beyond immediate success. By bringing attention to the issue and mobilizing their supporters, they seek to shift the public discourse and gradually influence public opinion.
Nebraskans who value the sanctity of life must remain vigilant and engaged in the face of this challenge. It is crucial to support organizations and lawmakers who uphold pro-life values and to stay informed about the ongoing efforts to promote unlimited abortion rights. Through respectful dialogue, education, and engagement, Nebraskans can continue to protect the rights of the unborn and maintain the pro-life stance that characterizes their state.
