‘Quantico’ Star Says Criticism of New Christmas Movie Has Surprisingly Come from Christians

‘Quantico’ Star Surprised by ⁤Christian Backlash Against New Christmas Movie

Alan Powell, known for his ‍role in “Quantico,” co-produced the faith-based film “Journey ⁢to Bethlehem” which tells the story of Jesus’ birth. However, Powell has ⁢been taken aback by the negative‍ reception from some Christian outlets.

“We made this movie with so much passion and‍ love for this story. I was raised in the Church… I was in a ⁤Christian ⁣band. I’ve acted in faith-based movies, and this is a movie ‍about the birth ⁣of Christ,” said Powell, ‌the son of a former Baptist⁢ megachurch pastor in ⁤Nashville.

“It’s something that we truthfully didn’t see ⁤coming and are ‍bit confounded by, quite frankly. ⁤I mean, we absolutely hold this story reverently. We believe in‌ this film,” he added.

“Journey to Bethlehem” is a joint⁢ venture of Monarch Media and Affirm Films, a division of ‍Sony. ⁣It has‌ received positive reviews from audiences, with a 94 percent positive rating on Rotten ⁢Tomatoes and ⁢an⁤ A- CinemaScore.

However, some Christian outlets have criticized the film ‍for adding material not found in the Bible. Powell‍ explained, “We’re coming up against some resistance from some ‍people who are purists in a way and feel⁢ like we filled in gaps in ways ‍that they’re unhappy with.”

He hopes that‍ moviegoers will ‌be encouraged by the film’s message and ‌continue to support it‍ in theaters.

“Journey to Bethlehem” features Antonio Banderas as King Herod,⁢ Fiona Palomo as⁤ Mary,‌ and Milo Manheim ‌as Joseph. The ⁣film has a similar⁢ feel to “High School Musical” and has been a passion project for director Adam Anders for about 10 ⁤years.

Powell shared the theme ‌of the story, saying, “God has bigger plans⁣ for‌ you than you even have for yourself.” ⁢He hopes that viewers will be⁣ inspired by ‍the film’s message of purpose ⁣and faith.
