On the 60th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination, a significant number of Americans believe that Lee Harvey Oswald did not act alone in killing JFK. According to a recent Gallup survey, nearly two-thirds of Americans think that additional parties could have been involved in the murder.
The Gallup survey, conducted between October 2nd and October 23rd, revealed that 65% of participants believe that others were involved in a conspiracy to assassinate President Kennedy, while only 29% believe Oswald acted alone.
Gallup asked survey participants, “Do you think that one man was responsible for the assassination of President Kennedy, or do you think that others were involved in a conspiracy?”
Furthermore, the survey found that more Republicans (71%) and Independents (68%) than Democrats (55%) believe JFK’s death was the result of a conspiracy.
When asked to identify the specific people or organizations they believed were involved in the conspiracy, 20% of respondents mentioned the federal government, 16% blamed the CIA, 11% blamed the Mafia, and 6% pointed fingers at the FBI.
The survey also noted that the growing belief in the government’s alleged involvement in JFK’s assassination may be linked to a decline in public trust since 2020.
Today marks 60 years since JFK was shot while riding in a motorcade with his wife Jackie Kennedy (Onassis) in Dallas, Texas. The nation was shocked when a gunman suddenly killed the 35th president as the motorcade passed through the city’s downtown area.
Despite the passage of time, the curiosity surrounding JFK’s assassination remains, with many still seeking answers. Two days after JFK’s death, Oswald himself was killed by Dallas nightclub owner Jack Ruby.
