Faith leaders urge swift funding for Israel’s defenses
A Coalition of Religious Leaders Urges Congress to Support Israel’s War on Hamas and Combat Anti-Semitism
A coalition of religious leaders is passionately advocating for Congress to provide financial support for Israel’s ongoing battle against Hamas and to take decisive action against anti-Semitism. This group of fifteen influential leaders from various religious organizations and institutions has sent a powerful letter to both Democratic and Republican Congressional leaders, urging them to increase their support for Israel and the Jewish people.
“We represent many faith traditions and have come together, in one united voice, to defend our shared humanity against barbarism and terror,” the letter states.
The conflict between Israel and Hamas escalated after a devastating attack by the terror group on October 7, resulting in the deaths of over 1,200 people and the capture of approximately 240 individuals, mostly Israeli civilians. The coalition’s letter describes this tragedy as the “most significant massacre of the Jewish people since the Holocaust.”
Religious leaders who have signed the letter include Ralph Reed, chairman of the Faith & Freedom Coalition, and Rabbi Tuly Weisz, director of Israel365. Their support for Israel’s fight against terrorism stems from their Christian faith and their belief in the importance of standing by their Jewish brothers and sisters, both domestically and internationally.
“As Christians and as human beings, it is our duty to support Israel. The nation of Israel is our strongest ally in the Middle East, and the United States must stand firmly by our ally,” says Aaron Gulbransen, executive director of the Tennessee Faith & Freedom Coalition.
The coalition of religious leaders also emphasizes the need to defeat Hamas and neutralize state sponsors of terror like Iran through the foreign policy of the United States. Additionally, they condemn anti-Semitism and call for its condemnation at every turn.
In their letter, the religious leaders call on Congress to swiftly allocate funds for Israel’s defense and pass crucial bills aimed at combating anti-Semitism, such as the Countering Hate Against Israel by Federal Contractors Act and the Antisemitism Awareness Act. They also urge the Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security, and other relevant agencies to take all necessary measures to prevent, prosecute, and punish anti-Semitic hate crimes within the United States.

The coalition of faith leaders also calls on the Biden administration to adopt a stricter approach towards Qatar, an Arab nation that has established connections with Western countries while maintaining deep ties to terror groups in the Middle East.
“[F]orce Qatar to choose between remaining a major non-NATO ally of the United States or continuing its support for Hamas leadership and terrorism,” the letter demands.
Qatar, known for its close association with Hamas, has provided a safe haven for the terror group’s leadership in Doha, where their main decision-making body convenes.
How does the Pastors Network contribute to the coalition’s call for financial aid to Israel?
Pastors Network, another signatory of the letter.
The coalition of religious leaders is calling on Congress to provide financial aid to Israel as it continues to defend itself against Hamas, a known terrorist organization that has repeatedly targeted Israeli civilians. They argue that this assistance is necessary to ensure the safety and security of Israel and to counter the rise of anti-Semitism around the world.
Anti-Semitism has been on the rise globally, with various incidents occurring in recent years. The coalition of religious leaders believes that unequivocal support from Congress for Israel’s fight against Hamas will not only send a strong message against terrorism but will also demonstrate the United States’ commitment to combating anti-Semitism in all its forms.
“Our shared values of justice, compassion, and peace compel us to stand together against hatred and violence. We must not allow the atrocities committed by Hamas and other terrorist organizations to go unanswered,” the letter emphasizes.
This united call from religious leaders reflects a larger sentiment among American citizens, with recent polls showing a majority of Americans expressing support for Israel in its conflict with Hamas. The coalition hopes to see Congress translate this widespread support into tangible actions, such as increased financial aid and stronger condemnation of anti-Semitism.
The coalition’s letter concludes by urging Congress to “take a stand for justice, for freedom, and for the safety of all people. Solidarity with Israel is not only a matter of religious duty but also a moral imperative for all who believe in the dignity and worth of every human being.”
As the conflict between Israel and Hamas continues, the coalition of religious leaders is determined to fight for increased support for Israel and to combat the rise of anti-Semitism. They are hopeful that their letter will resonante with members of Congress and inspire decisive action in defense of Israel and against hatred and violence.
