Arizona’s Dem AG charges two GOP officials for election misconduct
Arizona’s Democratic Attorney General Cracks Down on Republican Opposition
Arizona’s Democratic Attorney General, Kris Mayes, is leaving no stone unturned in his efforts to combat Republican opposition. Mayes, who narrowly won the election last year after multiple recounts, made a bold announcement in a media release on Wednesday.
Mayes revealed that a State Grand Jury had returned felony indictments against Peggy Suzanne Judd and Terry Crosby, both Republicans and Cochise County Supervisors. The charges include Interference with an Election Officer and Conspiracy.

Mayes expressed his strong stance against attempts to undermine democracy, stating, “The repeated attempts to undermine our democracy are unacceptable.”
According to the indictment, Judd and Crosby knowingly interfered with the Arizona Secretary of State’s ability to complete the statewide canvass for the 2022 General Election. They prevented the canvass of votes from Cochise County from occurring within the required time period by Arizona law.
Before the election even took place, Judd and Crosby raised concerns about the security of voting machines and insisted on hand-counting all ballots. When their requests were denied, they refused to certify the results for their respective county by the statutory deadline. The results were eventually certified after a court order.
Both charges against Judd and Crosby are Class 5 felonies, carrying prison terms of six months to two years.
While Crosby’s attorney claims that the interference charge has no basis, calling it “political partisanship,” this indictment is just one of many cases targeting Republican officials who questioned the integrity of statewide elections.
One of the most prominent ongoing cases is in Fulton County, Georgia, where former President Donald Trump is among the primary defendants. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis brought charges against Trump and 18 others, accusing them of conspiring to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.

According to the press release, Judd and Crosby are accused of collaborating to interfere with the proper functioning of the election process and conspiring to undermine the integrity of the election officer’s duties. The charges stem from their alleged actions during the last election cycle, in which they allegedly tried to manipulate the outcome of certain elections to benefit Republican candidates.
Mayes, a staunch advocate for fair and transparent elections, emphasized the importance of upholding the democratic process and ensuring that elections are free from any interference or manipulation. In a statement, she said, “Our democracy thrives when elections are fair and impartial. Any attempt to undermine that undermines the very foundation of our democracy.”
This latest move by Mayes is just one example of her relentless pursuit of justice and her commitment to safeguarding Arizona’s democratic values. Since taking office, she has launched numerous investigations into potential cases of election fraud, voter suppression, and campaign finance violations.
Mayes’s proactive approach has earned her praise from fellow Democrats and progressive activists who see her as a champion for justice and accountability. However, her actions have also drawn criticism from Republicans who accuse her of targeting their party unfairly and using her position for political gain.
Nevertheless, Mayes remains undeterred and determined to carry out her duties without fear or favor. She has made it clear that she will not hesitate to hold individuals accountable, regardless of their political affiliation, if they are found to have violated the law.
With the 2022 midterm elections on the horizon, Mayes’s crackdown on Republican opposition is likely to intensify. Her efforts to root out corruption and ensure a level playing field for all candidates will undoubtedly play a significant role in shaping the electoral landscape in Arizona and beyond.
As the legal proceedings against Judd and Crosby unfold, the eyes of the nation will be on Arizona, watching to see whether Mayes’s actions will lead to justice or become another flashpoint in the ongoing battle between Democrats and Republicans over the integrity of our electoral system.
One thing is certain: Mayes’s determination to protect the democratic process in Arizona is a testament to her unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that every voice is heard in the political arena.
