This effort comes after a lawsuit was filed by Boise High School’s Sexuality and Gender Alliance and a transgender student against Senate Bill 1100 in Idaho. The bill, passed by Idaho’s Republican trifecta, allows students to sue schools for $5,000 every time a transgender student is found using a bathroom that does not correspond to their sex.
Despite a preliminary injunction being rejected, the coalition remains determined to fight for transgender rights. They are supported by other states including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington, D.C.
