Hunter Biden has defied his scheduled closed-door deposition on Capitol Hill with the House Oversight Committee.
Hunter instead delivered a public statement on Wednesday outside of Capitol Hill, claiming the investigation into his business dealings is a move to undermine his father’s tenure as president.
“I’m here today to acknowledge that I’ve made mistakes in my life,” he said, flanked by his lawyer and Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.), “but I’m also here today to correct how the MAGA Right has portrayed me for their political purposes.”
“For six years, I’ve been the target of the unrelenting Trump attack machine shouting, where’s Hunter?” he added. “Here’s my answer, I’m right here.”
Hunter has said he wants to testify at a public hearing to answer questions from House Republicans because in private could give way to selective leaks.
This comes after Republicans have rejected Hunter Biden’s offer to appear for an initial public hearing, saying they want him to testify privately first.
The inquiry is investigating the Biden family as a whole. First, whether President Biden used his power for financial gain for himself and his family, whether President Biden used his power in office to influence the Department of Justice to help Hunter avoid criminal charges, and how Hunter was involved in the family’s business dealings.
Meanwhile, Hunter faces tax evasion charges, as well as a separate gun charge by special counsel David Weiss.
Additionally, Hunter said his father was not involved in any of his business dealings. “Not as a practicing lawyer, as a board member of Burisma not in my partnership with a Chinese private businessman, not in my investments at home nor abroad and certainly not as an artist,” he said.
“But to suggest that is grounds for an impeachment inquiry is beyond the absurd. It’s shameless,” he said. “There’s no evidence to support the allegations that my father was financially involved in my business.”
The Oversight and Judiciary panels didn’t know on Tuesday night if Hunter would show up for the closed-door deposition.
The House is set to vote on Wednesday to authorize an impeachment inquiry into President Biden.

“Defiant Hunter Biden Refuses Closed-Door Deposition, Claims Investigation is Politically Motivated”
Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, made headlines on Wednesday when he defied his scheduled closed-door deposition with the House Oversight Committee on Capitol Hill. Instead, he delivered a public statement, accusing investigators of attempting to undermine his father’s tenure as president. This move has raised questions about the transparency and credibility of the ongoing investigation into Hunter Biden’s business dealings.
In his public statement, Hunter Biden addressed the investigation into his business affairs, stating that it is a politically motivated move to tarnish his father’s image. He claimed that the scrutiny he has faced over the past six years has been part of an “unrelenting Trump attack machine.” Hunter Biden emphasized that he is willing to testify at a public hearing, as he believes that a private deposition would allow for selective leaks and manipulation of information.
House Republicans, on the other hand, have rejected Hunter Biden’s offer to appear for an initial public hearing, demanding that he testify privately first. This disagreement further adds to the contentious nature of the investigation. It raises the question of whether both parties involved are truly interested in uncovering the truth or if they are only seeking political advantage.
The investigation is centered around the Biden family as a whole, examining allegations of financial gain, improper use of presidential power, and potential influence on the Department of Justice. The inquiry is also looking into Hunter Biden’s involvement in his family’s business dealings. These allegations are serious and warrant a thorough and impartial investigation.
Additionally, Hunter Biden is facing separate legal issues. He is currently charged with tax evasion and gun possession by special counsel David Weiss. These charges have further complicated the situation and have raised concerns among the public about potential conflicts of interest and improper conduct.
It is worth noting that Hunter Biden firmly stated that his father was not involved in any of his business ventures. As the investigation continues, it is crucial to separate fact from speculation and allow due process to take its course.
The outcome of the investigation into Hunter Biden’s business dealings will undoubtedly have an impact on the Biden administration. It is essential for the American public to have confidence in the integrity of their elected officials and their families. Transparency, fairness, and adherence to the rule of law should be the guiding principles throughout this process.
Regardless of political affiliations, it is crucial to demand accountability from our elected representatives and their families. The American people deserve to know the truth behind these allegations, and it is the responsibility of investigators to conduct a thorough and impartial examination of the facts.
In conclusion, Hunter Biden’s refusal to participate in a closed-door deposition and his claims of political motivation behind the investigation into his business dealings have raised significant concerns about the transparency and legitimacy of the ongoing inquiry. As the investigation continues, it is crucial for all parties involved to prioritize fairness, transparency, and the pursuit of truth to uphold the integrity of the American democratic process.
