Ex-Biden spokesperson believes White House wants Hunter Biden to stay silent in public
Jen Psaki Suggests White House Wants Hunter Biden to Stay Quiet in Congressional Subpoena Spat
Jen Psaki, President Joe Biden’s former press secretary, believes that the White House would prefer if Hunter Biden refrained from speaking publicly amid a dispute over a congressional subpoena in the GOP-led House’s impeachment inquiry.
The topic arose during an interview on “Meet The Press” when moderator Kristen Welker asked Psaki, who is now an MSNBC host, about the impact of Hunter Biden speaking at a press event outside the U.S. Capitol Building but failing to appear for a scheduled deposition.
“Look, I think if you’re sitting in the White House right now, you’re like, ’Please, Hunter Biden. We know your dad loves you. Please stop talking in public.’ This is not helpful to any of them for him to be out there,” Psaki stated during the exchange on NBC.

“But, at the same time, the president loves his son,” she added. “That takes precedent over anything else. That is appealing. I’m thinking of the woman in your focus group who talked about family. He loves his son. He loves his family. He’s worried about his mental health. But, yes, the White House would like him to probably go away right now.”
Last month, Hunter Biden was subpoenaed to appear for a deposition as part of the corruption-focused impeachment probe into his father. The investigation is examining the Biden family’s business dealings and the Department of Justice’s handling of the criminal investigation into Hunter Biden. Others, including the president’s brother James Biden, have also received subpoenas.
Although Hunter Biden showed up on Capitol Hill on the scheduled deposition day, he used the opportunity to demand a public hearing instead of a closed-door interview.

“I’m here today to make sure the House committee’s illegitimate investigations of my family do not proceed on distortions, manipulated evidence, and lies,” Biden stated during his press event.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed that President Biden was aware of what Hunter Biden was going to say at the press event but did not provide further details when asked if the president tried to dissuade his son from violating the congressional subpoena.
House Republicans have expressed their willingness to have Hunter Biden testify in a public hearing, but only after a deposition. Impeachment investigators are now threatening Hunter Biden with contempt of Congress proceedings.
Shortly after Hunter Biden’s press event, the House voted along party lines to formally authorize the impeachment inquiry, a move that Republicans argued would give legal weight to their subpoenas.
In response, President Biden released a lengthy statement accusing House Republicans of spreading lies and wasting time on a baseless political stunt that lacks factual support.
How has Hunter Biden’s public appearance and statements impacted the Biden administration?
, Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, made headlines when he spoke at a press event outside the U.S. Capitol Building but failed to appear for a scheduled deposition in the GOP-led House’s impeachment inquiry. This incident has prompted discussions about whether Hunter Biden should continue speaking publicly, and during an interview on “Meet The Press,” Jen Psaki, the former press secretary for President Biden and current MSNBC host, shared her perspective on the matter.
Psaki expressed her belief that the White House would prefer if Hunter Biden refrained from speaking publicly. She stated, “Look, if you’re sitting in the White House right now, you’re like, ‘Please, Hunter Biden. We know your dad loves you. Please stop talking in public.’ This is not helpful to any of them for him to be out there.” The implication is that Hunter Biden’s public appearances and statements may be causing more harm than good for the Biden administration.
However, Psaki also acknowledged that President Biden loves his son and prioritizes their relationship above all else. She mentioned a focus group participant who emphasized the importance of family, and Psaki stated, “That takes precedence over anything else. That is appealing. I’m thinking of the woman in your focus group who talked about family. He loves his son. He loves his family. He’s worried about his mental health.” Despite this, Psaki confirmed that the White House would still prefer Hunter Biden to “probably go away right now.”
This statement by Psaki highlights the delicate balance between personal relationships and political considerations that the Biden administration must navigate. While President Biden undoubtedly cares about his son and his well-being, there is an understanding that Hunter Biden’s public presence may create further complications for the administration. It is understandable that the White House would prefer to avoid any controversies or distractions that Hunter Biden’s public statements may generate.
The controversy surrounding Hunter Biden and his involvement in various inquiries has been a persistent topic in the media. As the son of the president, Hunter Biden’s actions and statements have the potential to impact the administration’s image and agenda. Therefore, it is not surprising that Psaki’s remarks reflect a desire for Hunter Biden to step back from the public eye.
Overall, Psaki’s suggestion that the White House wants Hunter Biden to stay quiet in the congressional subpoena spat reveals the delicate balance the administration must strike between personal relationships and political considerations. It also underscores the challenges faced by the Biden administration in managing public perceptions and maintaining focus on their policy objectives. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how Hunter Biden’s actions will continue to impact the political landscape.
