Special Counsel Jack Smith seeks to halt former President Donald Trump’s ”partisan political attacks.”
Smith’s office has requested United States District Judge Tanya Chutkan to prevent the 45th president from making false claims about the politically motivated charges against him related to the 2020 election.
“The defense has attempted to inject into this case partisan political attacks and irrelevant and prejudicial issues that have no place in a jury trial,” said Chutkan.
In response, Trump accuses Smith of being “obsessed” with him and disregarding Judge Chutkan’s instructions to halt litigation in this case.
The motion aims to prevent Trump from informing jurors about potential penalties if found guilty and holds law enforcement officials accountable for their lack of preparedness during the U.S. Capitol breach on January 6th.
