Haley leads $100M spending spree to maintain Iowa progress
Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley Dominates Ad Spending in Iowa
Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley has emerged as the top ad spender among Republican candidates in Iowa, with a whopping $30 million spent in the Hawkeye State. Alongside the support of super PACs, Haley’s campaign has reserved an additional $5 million for ads, according to NBC News.
Haley’s Strong Campaign Push in Iowa
Haley’s campaign has invested $4.6 million in ads within the state, with an impressive $1.3 million in reserves. Additionally, the pro-Haley super PAC SFA Fund has contributed a staggering $25 million towards ads in 2023, with an extra $3.3 million in reserves, as reported by AdImpact.
The former governor is determined to secure a strong finish in the upcoming Iowa caucuses, where she currently polls in third place. Leading the pack are former President Donald Trump and Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL), who hold first and second place respectively. Haley is also aiming for at least a second-place finish in New Hampshire, where she currently polls in second place, according to RealClearPolitics.
DeSantis’s Iowa Strategy
Governor DeSantis’s campaign has placed significant emphasis on the Hawkeye State, where he currently polls in second place. With a spending of $2.3 million on ads in Iowa in 2023, DeSantis plans to allocate an additional $400,000 before the Jan. 15 caucuses. Notably, DeSantis has secured the endorsement of Governor Kim Reynolds (R-IA), which his campaign has effectively highlighted in their ads, while also taking aim at Haley.
Support for DeSantis
Never Back Down, a super PAC supporting DeSantis, has been the second-largest spender in the state, investing a staggering $17.6 million in ads in 2023. However, due to internal conflicts, the group has withdrawn the remainder of its ad reservations. Fight Right and Good Fight, two other pro-DeSantis PACs, have collectively spent $1.3 million on ads reserved for January.
Trump’s Presence in Iowa
Trump’s campaign has allocated $4.1 million from its campaign chest for ads in Iowa, while the pro-Trump super PAC MAGA Inc. has invested a substantial $11.4 million in Iowa ads in 2023.
Current Polling Numbers
As of now, the former president holds a commanding lead in Iowa with 32.7%, followed by DeSantis at 18.6%, and Haley closely behind at 16.1%, according to recent polls.

What strategic advantage does Haley gain from setting aside an additional $5 million for ads in Iowa?
$2.5 million still remaining. This significant ad spending has allowed Haley to dominate the airwaves in Iowa, ensuring her message reaches a wide audience.
The extensive ad spending by Haley’s campaign highlights her determination to make a strong impression in Iowa, a crucial state in the presidential election. Iowa holds the first-in-the-nation caucuses, making it a significant battleground for candidates looking to gain momentum early in the race. By investing heavily in advertising, Haley aims to increase her name recognition and build a loyal base of supporters.
The fact that Haley’s campaign has set aside an additional $5 million for ads underlines her commitment to maintaining a strong presence in Iowa. This strategic move allows her campaign to respond effectively to any potential challenges or shifts in the political landscape. It also demonstrates Haley’s confidence in her message and the importance she places on connecting with voters directly through advertising.
The support of super PACs, such as the SFA Fund, has undoubtedly played a significant role in Haley’s ad dominance. Super PACs can raise and spend unlimited amounts of money to support a candidate, making them influential players in modern political campaigns. The $25 million contribution from the SFA Fund demonstrates the level of enthusiasm and financial support Haley has garnered from these independent groups.
Haley’s extensive ad spending in Iowa reflects her strong campaign push and her determination to secure a successful outcome in the state’s caucuses. By reaching a wide audience and effectively communicating her message, Haley hopes to build a loyal base of support in Iowa and gain valuable momentum for her presidential bid.
However, it is worth noting that ad spending does not guarantee success in an election. While it can help candidates raise name recognition and shape public perception, other factors such as policy positions, personal appeal, and ground-level organizing also play crucial roles in winning over voters.
As the presidential race continues to unfold, it will be interesting to see how Haley’s ad dominance in Iowa translates to support on the ground. While her significant investment in advertising is undoubtedly a powerful tool, ultimately, it will be up to voters to decide the outcome of the Iowa caucuses and the overall presidential race.
