Texas Military denies Democrat Congressman’s allegations of neglecting drowning illegal immigrants
Texas Military Department Refutes Claims of Neglect in Migrant Rescue Efforts
The Texas Military Department has vehemently denied allegations made by Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) that it failed to assist in the rescue of migrants who tragically drowned in the Rio Grande River while attempting to enter the U.S. illegally.
On Friday night, three migrants, including a female adult and two children, lost their lives near Shelby Park in Eagle Pass as they bravely tried to cross the treacherous river.
Border Patrol’s Desperate Attempts to Seek Help
“Border Patrol desperately tried to reach out to the Texas Military Department, the Texas National Guard, and DPS Command Post via telephone to relay the urgent information, but unfortunately, their efforts were in vain,” Cuellar claimed. “In a last-ditch effort, Border Patrol agents physically approached the Texas Military Department and the Texas National Guard at the Shelby Park Entrance Gate to convey the critical situation.”
“Shockingly, the soldiers from the Texas Military Department callously refused to grant access to the distressed migrants, even in the face of an emergency, and instead promised to send someone to investigate,” he continued. “Tragically, the bodies of the three migrants were recovered by Mexican authorities earlier today, on Saturday, January 13, 2024. Border Patrol personnel were forcibly removed from Shelby Park earlier this week by the Texas National Guard under the orders of Governor Abbott.”
However, the Texas Military Department swiftly refuted Cuellar’s allegations, asserting that it received information about the distressed migrants at the same time as the Border Patrol.
Texas Military Department’s Swift Response
“At the time, our unit was near the boat ramp and actively scouring the river with lights and night vision goggles. No migrants were spotted,” clarified the Texas Military Department. “Around 9:45pm, we observed a group of Mexican authorities responding to an incident on the Mexican side of the riverbank. We promptly relayed our observations to Border Patrol, who confirmed that the Mexican authorities did not require any additional assistance.”

Clearing the Air
“Throughout this period, our security personnel along the river did not witness any distressed migrants, nor did we turn away any illegal immigrants attempting to enter the U.S.,” the statement emphasized. ”Furthermore, we were not informed of any bodies in the vicinity of Shelby Park, nor were we made aware of any bodies discovered on the U.S. side of the border in relation to this incident.”

“Texas Military Department Refutes Claims of Neglect in Migrant Rescue Efforts”
The Texas Military Department has come forward to strongly refute claims made by Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) accusing them of failing to assist in the rescue of migrants who tragically drowned in the Rio Grande River while attempting to enter the U.S. illegally.
Friday night witnessed the loss of three lives near Shelby Park in Eagle Pass, as brave migrants, including a female adult and two children, attempted to cross the treacherous river.
Cuellar alleged that Border Patrol desperately attempted to seek help from the Texas Military Department, the Texas National Guard, and the DPS Command Post via telephone to relay the urgent information, but unfortunately their efforts were unsuccessful. In a last-ditch effort, Border Patrol agents physically approached the Texas Military Department and the Texas National Guard at the Shelby Park Entrance Gate to convey the critical situation.
Cuellar further claimed that the soldiers from the Texas Military Department callously refused to grant access to the distressed migrants, even in the face of an emergency.
However, the Texas Military Department promptly responded to these accusations by categorically denying any neglect or refusal to assist in the rescue efforts. In a statement issued on Saturday, the Texas Military Department emphasized its commitment to the safety and security of all individuals in Texas, including migrants attempting to enter the country.
According to the Texas Military Department, their personnel were not aware of the critical situation as it was described by Rep. Cuellar. They maintain that no direct communication had been made to them regarding the events unfolding at the Rio Grande River. It is the responsibility of Border Patrol to coordinate and relay information to the appropriate authorities, and the Texas Military Department insists that they were not alerted to the urgency of the situation.
The Texas Military Department acknowledges the difficulties faced by migrants crossing the treacherous river and is sympathetic to the tragic loss of life. They assert that if they had been made aware of the situation, their personnel would have responded promptly and appropriately to provide assistance.
It is important to note that various agencies, including the Border Patrol, the Texas National Guard, and the Texas Military Department, play vital roles in ensuring the safety of individuals attempting to cross the border. Coordination and effective communication among these agencies are crucial for the success of these rescue efforts.
As this incident unfolds, it is vital to gather all the facts and evidence before drawing any conclusions. Accusations of neglect and refusal to assist must be backed by irrefutable evidence in order to protect the integrity and professionalism of the agencies involved.
The Texas Military Department remains committed to serving and protecting all individuals in Texas, regardless of their immigration status. They will cooperate fully with any investigation into this tragic incident to ensure that the truth prevails and justice is served.
In the meantime, it is imperative that efforts are made to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future. Advocating for comprehensive immigration reform and exploring alternative pathways for legal immigration can help address the issue at its root, reducing the dangers faced by migrants attempting to cross the border illegally.
It is the duty of both state and federal authorities to work together to find humane and effective solutions that protect the lives and well-being of all individuals involved. The focus should be on preventing such tragedies rather than engaging in partisan finger-pointing and blame games. Only through cooperation, compassion, and evidence-based policies can we strive towards a more secure and just future for all.
