US Navy seizes Iranian ship carrying deadly aid for Houthis
U.S. Navy Seizes Iranian Ship Transporting Lethal Aid to Terrorist Forces
On Tuesday, U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM) confirmed that U.S. Navy Forces seized a sailing ship on January 11 that was conducting illegal transport of advanced lethal aid from Iran to resupply the terrorist Houthi forces in Yemen.
“U.S. Navy SEALs operating from USS Lewis B Puller, supported by helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), executed a complex boarding of the dhow near the coast of Somalia in international waters of the Arabian Sea, seizing Iranian-made ballistic missile and cruise missiles components,” USCENTCOM reported. “Seized items include propulsion, guidance, and warheads for Houthi medium range ballistic missiles (MRBMs) and anti-ship cruise missiles (ASCMs), as well as air defense associated components. Initial analysis indicates these same weapons have been employed by the Houthis to threaten and attack innocent mariners on international merchant ships transiting in the Red Sea.”
“The direct or indirect supply, sale, or transfer of weapons to the Houthis in Yemen violates U.N. Security Resolution 2216 and international law,” USCENTCOM added, noting that “two U.S. Navy SEALs previously reported as lost at sea were directly involved in this operation.”
“We are conducting an exhaustive search for our missing teammates,” General Michael Erik Kurilla, USCENTCOM Commander, stated.
The Navy sank the dhow.
“It is clear that Iran continues shipment of advanced lethal aid to the Houthis. This is yet another example of how Iran actively sows instability throughout the region in direct violation of U.N. Security Resolution 2216 and international law,” Kurilla declared. “We will continue to work with regional and international partners to expose and interdict these efforts, and ultimately to reestablish freedom of navigation.”
Iran Launches Ballistic Missiles Near U.S. Consulate in Iraq
On Monday, the Islamic Republic of Iran launched ballistic missiles that landed near the U.S. Consulate in Erbil, Iraq.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), a wing of Iran’s military and a designated terrorist organization, took responsibility for the attacks, saying that they were the “headquarters of spies” and “anti-Iranian terrorist gatherings in parts of the region”.
Several people were killed in the attacks, according to ABC News. No American casualties were reported. The attacks come after Iran has activated its proxies throughout the region to launch more than 120 attacks against U.S. forces since October 17.

How does the successful operation by the U.S. Navy in seizing the Iranian ship demonstrate their commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region, and what actions should the international community take in response to this act of aggression
In a training accident in August 2020 were conducting the operation. The Navy and Marine Corps Medal was posthumously awarded to the fallen heroes for their actions in executing this critical mission.”
This latest seizure highlights the ongoing efforts by Iran to support terrorist organizations in the region. The Houthi rebels in Yemen have been fighting a civil war against the internationally recognized government since 2015, and Iran has been providing them with weapons and other forms of support. This illegal arms shipment intercepted by the U.S. Navy provides further evidence of Iran’s nefarious activities.
The seized items, including ballistic missile and cruise missile components, demonstrate Iran’s willingness to destabilize the region and threaten the security of international waters. These weapons have been used by the Houthis to target innocent mariners and disrupt maritime trade in the Red Sea. The interception of this ship not only disrupts these illegal activities but also helps protect the safety of civilian maritime traffic.
The U.S. Navy’s successful operation in seizing this Iranian ship is a testament to their commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region. The deployment of Navy SEALs, along with the support of helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles, demonstrates the military’s ability to execute complex and strategic operations. The bravery and skill exhibited by the Navy SEALs in carrying out this mission, even in the face of danger, should be commended.
The international community must now respond to this act of aggression by Iran. The U.N. Security Resolution 2216 prohibits the supply, sale, or transfer of weapons to the Houthi rebels in Yemen. It is imperative that Iran be held accountable for its violations of this resolution and international law. Sanctions and other measures should be considered to discourage Iran from continuing its support of terrorist organizations.
This seizure also underscores the need for a united front against terrorism. The Houthi rebels have been responsible for numerous attacks and human rights abuses in Yemen. They continue to pose a significant threat to the stability of the region. It is essential that the international community work together to combat this threat and prevent further support to terrorist organizations.
In conclusion, the U.S. Navy’s seizure of an Iranian ship transporting lethal aid to the Houthi rebels in Yemen is a significant development in the fight against terrorism. Iran’s continued support of terrorist organizations undermines peace and stability in the region and threatens international maritime traffic. The bravery and expertise displayed by the Navy SEALs in this operation are commendable. The international community must respond firmly to Iran’s violations of U.N. resolutions and international law, and work together to combat the threat posed by the Houthi rebels.
