Former President Donald Trump made a dramatic appearance in court today to witness the selection of jurors for his second trial against E. Jean Carroll.
On this eventful Tuesday, the 45th president appeared in the Manhattan courtroom to observe the juror selection process. He is currently facing allegations of sexual assault from Carroll, a journalist, author, and former advice columnist.
Carroll is expected to take the stand on Wednesday to testify against the 2024 GOP front-runner. In a previous trial, Trump was ordered to pay $5 million after being found liable for allegedly sexually abusing Carroll in 1996 and defaming her in 2022.
After leaving the courtroom today, Trump took to social media to discuss the case. He vehemently denied Carroll’s rape allegation, calling it an “attempted EXTORTION” and accusing her of “fabricated lies and political shenanigans” on his Truth Social platform. He also claimed that the judge harbored “absolute hatred” for him.
In 2019, a judge ruled that Trump had defamed Carroll, and now she and her legal team are seeking over $10 million in damages.
Trump’s appearance in court comes after a district judge denied his request to delay the trial so he could attend his late mother-in-law’s funeral. Last week, former First Lady Melania Trump announced the passing of her mother, Amalija Knavs.
